| One of the main reasons for my visit to Montreal was to practice my rusty French and to have conversations with alert and articulate representatives of the lively French-Canadian culture. I soon found I did not have to go far. I could start with those who manned the reception at the Hotel St Denis, mostly students; and also with those who served meals. They contributed to a very refreshing vacation.
