The River Inn Amenities
Located in the prestigious Foggy Bottom neighborhood, the River Inn is two blocks from a Metro station and four blocks from the Kennedy Center. The hotel is almost equidistant from Georgetown and Dupont Circle, known for their shops and historic sites.

The hotel’s interior was created by the award-winning architecture and interior-design firm of Adamstein & Demetriou. Dish, the small and winsome restaurant, has garnered enthusiastic reviews from The Washington Post, The Washington Times, and Washingtonian magazine.

Recreation
Rock Creek Park, about five blocks from the hotel, is a 1,800-acre oasis with hiking and biking trails, a nature center/planetarium, and remnants of Civil War forts. Trail rides are available through the Rock Creek Park Horse Center. The park has 15 soft-surface and 10 hard-surface tennis courts; reservations are generally required.

Hains Point, about three miles from the hotel, offers an 18-hole golf course, a two-tier driving range, and a miniature-golf course that’s on the National Register of Historic Places.

The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or near the hotel; fees may apply.

Features
What to expect: Built in the 1950s as an apartment building, this nine-story hotel is in the middle of the upscale Foggy Bottom neighborhood. Manicured bushes and small trees wrapped in white lights lend a subtle charm to the exterior. In the chic, minimalist lobby, videos of crew teams rowing the Potomac play on a small screen behind the front desk. The majority of guests are in town for corporate or government business. On weekends, guests arrive to see shows at the Kennedy Center, four blocks south.

Amenity highlights: Dish, the hotel’s bright, 50-seat restaurant, has made a name for itself serving updated comfort-food classics such as Fried Chicken with Sweet Potato Fries and Rice Pudding with Vanilla Bean and Cranberries. Ron Reda, the chef who created Dish, oversaw the White House kitchen during the Clinton administration. The wine list includes an unusual variety of Virginia wines.

Insider tip: The Kennedy Center’s Millennium Stage presents a free show daily at 6 PM. Performers run the gamut from French folk dancers to jazz quintets to children’s choirs to storytellers. The shows take place in the center’s gleaming Grand Foyer overlooking the Potomac. After the show, guests can have drinks on the terrace beyond the foyer’s 60-foot windows or dine in the rooftop restaurants.

Dish - Updated comfort food—or “Eisenhower” food—is served for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. An eight-foot diptych of a reclining Weimaraner, photographed by William Wegman, sets a whimsical tone at this small, stylishly casual spot. Menu highlights include Fried Catfish Po’boy, Crab Cake with Smashed Red Potatoes, Grilled Top Sirloin, and, for dessert, Bubba’s Brownie.

Plus points: Literally a three-minute walk from the George Washington University Metro station in a tranquil, tree-lined residential area; Rooms spacious and tastefully decorated with well-appointed kitchenette; Staff very obliging. Minus point: Elevators are quite slow (but so what)

The River Inn is great for business or leisure trips--the kitchen or room service from the hotel's restaurant (The Dish) is great for dining in and the location (in the George Washington University area, a few blocks away from the Foggy Bottom Metro stop) is close to lots of great restaurants. A downside to the hotel is the fitness room--it only has a few pieces of workout equipment which aren't in great shape. Running on trails by the river or going to a gym is probably a better bet.

Wonderful location - safe, quiet, yet close enough to everything. Easy Metro access. Didn't expect to have a car when booked, but ultimately drove and it wasn't a problem. Valet parking was hastle-free and affordable. I'm very picky about cleanliness, and the River Inn met my standards. We had two adults and two kids and plenty of room. Staff was helpful, knowledgeable, and friendly -- hard to come by these days. Only had breakfast at the restaurant, and it was fine. No complaints.

I had a pleasant stay. The staff were friendly and the room was clean. The only problem I had was finding the place. Its kind of hidden away.

The RIVER INN was rated in the 3 star range for costs & expectations, but the people who had stayed there rated it much higher. We liked the River Inn being only 2 1/4 blocks to the Metro station. One of those blocks was walking through the well-traveled, well-lit, attractive GWU campus, with the hospital next to the Metro. Just inside the hospital is a cafeteria; we used it, pick and choose items you like. We liked the full kitchen and a Safeway about 3 blocks away, where many college students seem to travel daily. We were happy with a 7-11 between the Metro Center and the River Inn. It came in handy when returning back to the Inn from the Metro. We appreciated the River Inn's holding our luggage after check out until the shuttle came several hours later, so we could still check out some attractions. Taxis are often stationed at the River Inn; the Super Shuttle from the airport delivers to the door; the Metro station is close. The River Inn staff answered all questions, helpfully and kindly. We enjoyed the High Speed Net in our room with the high speed cord hook up. Wireless was only in the lobby; take your cord; hotel has some available FREE, but with a deposit. Rooms are spacious, kitchen very workable. We were quickly making ice cubes and stocking fridge water as the water in the rooms is good but warm. The Metro was completely safe; we loved it. We would stay at the River Inn anytime, trust the ratings.

This place has it all. Some might find the residential street locale a bit different, but I love it. It's a short walk to the metro and to the Kennedy Center, and I frankly enjoyed blending into the neighborhood when away from the hustle and bustle of tourist sites and city center DC. The rooms are large, lovely and equipped with everything from kitchenette, free high-speed Internet and more. With the Expedia bargain rate, it would be silly to stay anywhere else. Oh - and by the way - though a bit pricey for a simple guy from NC, the food at DISH cafe is incomparable!
