Features
What to expect: Attentive service, large rooms, and value are the State Plaza’s hallmarks. Being located just blocks from the National Mall, the White House, and Georgetown doesn’t hurt, either.

Amenity highlights: The standard suites are spacious, but guests seeking even more room can opt for the Plaza Suite, which might be larger than a city apartment back home. Suites include a full kitchen, separate vanity and bathroom, complimentary coffee, high-speed Internet access (surcharge), and a free weekday Washington Post.

The hotel offers a full range of conveniences, from on-site parking to a fitness center.

Insider tip: Just a few blocks from the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium, the State Plaza puts you a few minutes' walk from world-class music, dance, theater, and opera. And you just might run into members of a touring dance troupe or symphony orchestra staying a few floors down.

Garden Café - This American-style bistro draws loyal crowds for lunch; it also serves breakfast and dinner.

Although the staff was helpful, the hotel is old and its decor is from the 1970's. Kind of creepy. You had to go through a parking garage to get to your room. I understand this was an old converted apartment building. On the positve side, great location for GW Univeristy visitors. The neighborhood seemed safe. Nice large rooms for meeting.

This hotel was very accomodating. When they ran out of regular rooms, they upgraded me to a suite, for no extra charge. The continental breakfast was just like any other...nothing exeptional, but definately good. Hotel is around everything, within walking distance. Great hotel for its price.

Wonderful facilities for families. Great location - walking distance from some DC sites and a few blocks from the metro. The staff was so helpful and provided excellent service. Would definitely stay again when in DC. A great value for the money.

Location worked great for access to the Mall. Access to transit was a bit less convenient. Internet connection didn't work, but repairman was provided very promptly. Couldn't be fixed so was moved to new room where it worked, but the connection speed was underwhelming. Found no clock-radio in new room, but again, the problem was fixed very promptly. About half of the channels on the TV were fuzzy and the controls on the A/C were not functioning the way I expected. Both are minor difficulties that I didn't ask to have addressed. These factors, plus the internet and radio issues, lead to my low rating on maintenance. Breakfast was unimpressive - some pastries, fruit, coffee and juice. No particularly healthy options, but adequate. All in all, a reasonable experience - have to think the technical difficulties were atypical and the service response was terrific - super nice people.

Very nice hotel in a quiet area close to all the major attractions in DC. Very useful for those visiting the George Washington University, World Bank or the IMF.

Overall, I enjoyed my stay at the hotel. The hotel staff were some of the friendliest staff I have ever encountered at a hotel. No car is needed at this hotel unless you plan to leave the Washington area but be prepared to pay a huge price for parking. Parking at the hotel is ridiculously expensive (I parked on the street and at a neighboring public garage for half the price). My only complaint - the hotel should consider offering more variety at the continental breakfast. There are other fruits beside bananas and red apples!

Air conditioners are not working properly. This seems to be a problem in other rooms of the same building, since others in our party also had problems. We had to change rooms on the second day of our stay and were moved to another building adjacent. However, the second room we stayed in was clean and adequate.
