Checking in at the Clarion was slow but ok. First non-smoking room assigned smelled of nothing but smoke & musty odor. View from window was an ally way with graffiti all over the walls. Requested different room, smelled better, good view of Mount Royal. Shower knob broke off first day. Toilet leaked water at base. AC never worked properly, had maintenance called three times. Only two small elevators which were used as service elevators also. Check out a nightmare. Two people at desk, 25+ customers in tiny lobby waiting for their turn. When we did request items such as towels, washcloths, etc. service was always prompt but did not make up for all of the problems. Very noisy area. Hotel restaurant nothing to get excited about.

If you're looking for a low priced average hotel that has a great downtown location, stay here. My only complaints were that the sink in the bathroom ran terribly, the water in the shower goes from cold to hot, and most of all, the elevators are EXTREMELY slow. Sometimes we'd wait 5 minutes for the elevator to come. However, the good definitely outweighs the bad as you get a nice little kitchen, the restuarant, the front desk workers are very helpful, and the room is very spacious. Being one block from all the fun, the hotel was worth it.

The Clarion was a good choice and really good value. The room was very large and clean. We were lucky to be on the third floor because the elevator could be a problem. Also, the front desk seemed to be very busy almost always. But, overall it was a great location and excellent experience.

Looks slightly outdated but clean & very spacious. We stayed in a suite and loved the fact that we could use the fully kitchen to eat breakfast & dinner in as opposed to going out and spending more.

Likes and dislikes.... likes- room had lots of space with a nice kitchen, bathroom, and good a/c. Supermarket around the corner was great. Laundry room had lots of washers and dryers and reasonably priced. dislikes at least 10-15 min walk from a metro stop. Very noisy outside of hotel. Slow on the service side, asked for things to be brought up and took a long time. Also, cleaning was random, they said it could be done anytime before 6pm...even if you asked for it to be done while gone at a certain point. usually only one person at front desk, 200+ rooms and only one person to check in or out. Also only 2 small rinky dink elevators for a 22 story bldg

We got a relatively good deal at this hotel during the high season of the Jazz festival in Montreal, and that's the reason we picked it up in spite of some mixed reviews. The comments of many other travelers regarding inefficient elevators was quite true, there are long waits on the only two small elevators that serve all hotel floors for both customers and maintenance personnel. The room was relatively clean. The queen bed was not too confortable. The sofa-bed in which my daughter slept (and she's quite pettite) was terribly uncomfortable. The toilet seat (sorry if it offends anyone) was EXTREMELY uncomfortable, being both small in diameter and having the toilet paper dispenser in such a position that it hits your ribs when you are sitting there (I am a 210 lb male, but I was surprised to hear the same complain from my daughter!). No TV in the bedroom, only one in the living room. Wireless for my laptop was available but slow and often disconnecting. Parking at a nearby lot was relatively inexpensive ($7 a night). Walking distance to several attractions (but not too close to the old city), and 2-3 blocks from metro stations.

This hotel is great for a budget conscious but not penny-pinching traveler. The availability of a full kitchen makes life much easier for families with small children, especially when you feel somewhat apologetic looking at the mess on the floor made by your 2 year-old after a restaurant meal. There are many grocery stores nearby, being 1 block from Rue St. Catherine where you can buy EVERYTHING. The negatives of this hotel is the lack of adequate parking on premise (although you are immediately directed to inexpensive parking within 2 blocks) and the SLOW elevators. I would stay here again next time.

It is a very good hotel. The rooms are nice and spacious, decorated with taste. The location is central, just a few blocks from the subway. The only problem was the concierge (quite slow service for check-out etc)

First, this hotel is not right on the commercial line in Montreal, and is a 10 minute walk to the downtown area. The lobby is in great condition, but upon entering our room we found a broken bottle and what looked like urine on our balcony. Our room was a suite and when we walked in, the room to the bedroom was closed and the room was dark (scary!). The sheets and floor seemed clean, but our toilet ran all night and I had to "fix" it every time we used the bathroom and the view from our windows was of a shady looking parking lot. We were woken up around 7AM to dump trucks right outside of our window and couldn't fall back asleep. I would suggest that you do NOT stay here, you won't be happy.
