| Location is good. Close to a lot of good local food. Walking distance to the bund and Nanjing St. Take a cab to the Oriental Pearl, Yuyuan, Jinmao towers and Exhibition Center for less than 20RMB. The area sround the hotel is pretty old but local taste. The room on the 7th floor is big but noisy. Changed to room on 12th floor, quiet but bathtub drainage stuck. Not a bad hotel that was built since 1930s. Service is good. Good for low budget trip.

| The Metropole has a great location. Considering its location, the rooms are very generously proportioned. The furniture is basic, but is clean and comfortable.

| Metropole is a great hotel at a reasonable price in a very convenient location, close to the Bund, shopping, dining and sightseeing - all within walking distance. The rooms - we stayed in a deluxe room - are very nice, well kept and maintained, large and well equipped - you get hot and cooled water, teabags, sweet buns, bathroom stuff and fast broadband access - byo laptop or use the provided desktop computer! Dining in the area is easy and great. Special mention goes to the "Grandmothers" restaurant around the corner with a great chinese menu and very affordable! For breakfast I suggest any of the many stalls in the surrounding streets. Shopping for little things and beer is also convenient around the corner. The only letdown of the hotel is the simple bar - buy your own for 1/5th of the price or go to a dedicated bar. Staff are very friendly and helpful and speak good english. Overall: totally recommended! No regrets!

| Close walking distance to the Bund, Nanjing Road, and a Metro subway station. Historic looking hotel with friendly, English speaking staff. Need to take a taxi (inexpensive) or the subway (very inexpensive) to reach the other areas of the city: French Concession, Xintiandi, Pudong, etc. The hotel's location is in the business district and has more authentic feel of Shanghai than the more Western-influenced areas of the west part of the city. The street in front of the hotel is busy at all hours, and with the poor sound proofing in the front-facing rooms you can hear street activites throughout the night. However, I would stay here again.

| Hotel is close to downtown. But the room is next to a card room and post an unfriendly guard that watches you everytime you enter to your room. Many of the light switches are not working and there is only one place for hair dryer but there is only a little mirror with the light not working. There are sewage smell in that room.

| The hotel is not the most attractive or clean (restaurant really sucks) - but the location is perfect- right in the center of everywhere- two blocks to the Bund and two blocks to Nanshi Rd. Perfect to walk everywhere!

| Because I was traveling with carry-on and like to walk, I found the Metropole's location very convenient. I took the Maglev from Pudong Airport and then the Metro for six stops (to Henan Station). It was then just an easy few block walk to the hotel (if you have large, heavy luggage, take a cab). The 1930-vintage art deco exterior is still very attractive and the lobby has retained some of its classic charm. My "inside" room had no view, but was very quiet. The room was efficient, clean and pretty well appointed, but not luxurious. The bathroom was also clean, but looked ready for a remodeling. There was plenty of hot water for morning showers. Overall, a nice place to stay...
