Top Three Likes: 1. New, clean & fresh 2. Pleasant and earnest staff 3. Good value. Top Three Dislikes 1. Hotel staff is young and relatively inexperienced. 2. There is basically nothing Thai about this place. It is generic "hip modern". It could be in any city. Almost felt sterile. 3. Long walk to old city. Comments: It's a new hotel and the kinks are not ironed out yet. There are no great views. Our room faced the north, which just overlooked a huge air conditioning system on the roof of another building. But also very convenient to shops, such as pharmacies and Starbucks, etc. Hotel borders the local night bazaar. The lobby has a huge bar and a restaurant, usually empty. If you get access to the "corporate floor" you get a very nice continental breakfast included. Overall, the staff was very helpful, but their inexperience often showed in little ways, like when they called me a taxi a few times and then had a lot of trouble telling me which one among several were waiting for me outside. The room was quirky, and always in a good way. Ours had very little storage space for clothes and our bed faced a prominent dark wood door to another room. The decor is minimalist modern. They do not have wireless Internet, but provide 45 minutes free access via Ethernet cable per day. I felt the freshness and cleanliness of the rooms to be a welcome exception to many hotel rooms in Thailand, and the hotel didn't charge nearly as much as other "upscale" hotels.

The D2 hotel is one-of-a-kind! We stayed for four nights and enjoyed every minute. We especially liked the orange box in our room that was filled with a new surprise every day. We received herbal massage balls, cookies, incense, etc. What a unique idea! The location of the hotel is great. It is in the middle of the night bazaar and within easy walking distance of the old city. We would definitely stay at D2 again! I hope that Dusit opens more of these hotels in other locations.

I have travelled to Chiang Mai many times and this was the best trip, mostly because of my fantastic time in D2. The hotel is fabulously designed with just enough humorous warmth added to the modern flair to make it both stylish and extremely comofortable. The staff is superbly trained. They look gorgeous and are incredibly attentive. The breakfast buffet is also gorgeous (check the daily pastry choice)and yummy. The hotel sits right in the heart of the night bazaar with makes for fun people watching, if nothing else. The location also puts you into convenient walking distance to everything you might need: restaurants, massages, FedEx office, travel office for trips into the mountains. D2 is perfect as far as I am concerned.
