| The hotel located in a less upscale location that is near Union Square. Like a lot of the historic hotels in the are, the rooms are pretty small and show the age of the place. However the hotel service was excellent from the cleaning maids to the manager. I've had worse service at a 4 star.

| This is the worst hotel that we have ever stayed. We booked the hotel two months in advanced, and when we arrived in San Francisco at 10 p.m. they did not have our room.On the top of everything they wanted to put us in the room with shared bathroom although we payed the room with private bathroom. At the reception we found a person who does not even work at the hotel, but in the local pet store. In short do not ever stay in this horrible hotel.

| I can recommend this hotel if you don't care too much about luxury. The hotel is old and a little worn out. However, staff is very friendly and helpful. Location is okay! I think public transportation is needed to get to most of the sights.

| Centrally located in the "Tenderloin" district, Harcourt Hotel is a 10 minute walk from beautiful Nob Hill, Downtown & Civic Center. It is a very good location for first-time travelers to San Francisco like myself. The hotel was nice, and the room (with private bathroom) was clean, comfortable and surprisingly large for what I had expected, with newly painted walls. The only inconveniences were that since the building is old the shower could use more water pressure and the sink had 2 separate faucets for hot/cold. All of the staff were very friendly, polite & helpful. I always felt safe, very important to a female staying alone in an unfamiliar city. Although I didn't have time to spend downstairs in the lobby or venture into the common room, apparently there is a large-screen TV and planned activities are held there. Often there were people chatting in the lobby, also friendly. Accommodations include bicycle storage and refrigerator (downstairs). Not a luxury hotel, but for a very low price, a great choice in the perfect location.

| Everything is old, but what do you expect for this money? The only unexpected thing: I arrived after midnight and their garage was closed, so I had to park in public parking nearby (additional $10).
