Features
What to expect: Catering to an international clientele (possibility of topless sunbathing), the resort comprises three side-by-side hotels—Riu Bachata, Riu Merengue, and Riu Mambo—sharing an 800m (one-half mile) beach. Connected by a paved walkway, the hotels resemble pastel villages. Guests enjoy access to all resort facilities, entertainment, and activities. Each hotel has its own pools, children's club, open-air theater for nightly entertainment, activities schedule, and choice of restaurants, including a theme-dinner buffet restaurant. Guests may drink at all hotels' bars and eat breakfast, lunch, and snacks at all restaurants. Guests must eat dinner at their own hotel’s restaurants. Opened in 2002, Riu Bachata Hotel is the resort’s newest and largest. It is adjacent to the water-sports beach on Maimón Bay. The casino adjoins the lobby. The hotel’s pool complex is the largest and most elaborate. Like Riu Merengue Hotel, it includes a large, open-air, plaza-like bar, an amenity Riu Mambo does not have. This hotel also includes ice machines, which the other hotels do not. Riu Merengue Hotel was the first and is located in the center. It includes a large, open-air, plaza-like bar. Riu Mambo Hotel is the smallest of the three. Bars offer only domestic-brand liquors, although guests may enjoy international brands at the other hotels' bars. While all three hotels welcome children, Riu Mambo Hotel is especially family-friendly because it includes a supervised children's section in the main buffet restaurant at dinner.
Amenity highlights: This hotel features two 61m (200-foot) pools, one with a jetted section, a shallow area with underwater tile lounges, and a swimup bar. A children’s pool is also on site. Padded lounge chairs and thatched-roof sunshades flank the pools. Maimón Bay Beach, adjacent to the hotel, offers a water-sports center for kayaks, snorkeling gear, sailboats, pedal boats, windsurfers, and boogie boards.
Insider tip: This area of the Dominican Republic is known as the Amber Coast for its rich deposits of the semi-precious stone. The Amber Museum in Puerto Plata 10 km (6.25 mi) east of the hotel is an excellent place to shop for amber.

| Riu Bachata is located on a good shady beach. The water quality of the ocean is typical of the Atlantic and not the Caribbean. The hotel grounds and the staff are very good. The rooms are comfortable, could have better AC. Food service at the buffet restaraunt is good. More variety would have made it better. We were very dissapointed with the " ala carte restaurants" food selection was very normal. Wine selection was all the same. With a blidfold on you would not know if you had red, white or rose wine. Call liquor was available at all bars so that was OK. I was extremely dissapointed to spend an entire week in the DR without one "Presidente" cerveza. We did have one member of the family aquire a stomach bug. The health care service although "not inclusive" was administered efficienly and professionally. Again overall this is a good value for a vacation. The staff is fantastic, and they work hard to keep you comfortable and entertained

| June 15-18. Fri night we both were sick and Sat. sat in our room with an IV for 24 hours. It wasnt free either. The doctor said he didn't know what it was, i said food poisoning and hes like no no no. 20 people ahead of me at the docs office with the same thing. We did not drink any alcoholic. The air conditioning in our room was non existent even though they swore it was working, so all we had to cool off was a ceiling fan. It felt like 110 degrees everywhere you went and no where to cool off since the lobby etc is all outside - with no air conditioning. The beach was nice but the sand was just dirty it seemed filled with tree branches and the water was nasty looking with all this vegetation and branches in it and looked brown. Nobody was in the water but folks were laying on the beach. The pool was nice but if u dont get there early enough there is no chairs. Staff is nice. Expect to get hit on a lot if u are female. The guy that books the massages, he was harassing us for some money even though we canceled for being sick. Good food variety. Mostly European couples & families. grounds are just beautiful and spotless. No atm in the hotel u have to walk like half a mile 4 one in the middle of nowhere. No internet in the rooms. Room keys were ur traditional keys with a huge key chain as opposed 2 the cards used today. They dont stock the fridge everyday unless u ask for it. When buying souvenirs watch out for getting ripped off when you ask for prices in US $$.

| I have mixed feels about this property. First off, I only have one other to compare to, and that was in Cancun. Relative to that hotel this ones leans more to a European clientele and less to the US (palate). Food was generally good, but as mentioned above, aimed at Europeans with a greater than expected local flare. I personally found it good, and could find no problems eating, but could see some people (Americans) with picker palates might find it problematic. Generally all other aspects where good to excellent. The pools are very nice and, as expected, bar service is right there. Staff are the best part of Riu Bachata, very nice people, not always angling for a tip and doing a good job. Entertainment pool side and at night was the same (energetic) guys and gals.Very children friendly, would not suggest for singles and probably better packs for young couples w/o kids. You will not confuse this for cruise ship entrainment but they try hard and keep us all laughing much of the time. Lots of standard things included, usual stuff, tennis, sailing, kayaking, etc. Did a (paid) snorkel trip, very nice! We were there Easter week, prime price. Weather was as expected, warm and nice. We had a greater than (expected) amount of rain. Met a lot of Brits that were paying less than us, there two weeks (we had one) and flew from the UK (charters) as opposed to our (expensive) flight from Newark. Kids made friends by the end of the week and would say they had a great time.

| Just got back from Riu Bachata and it was exactly what I had expected and had been looking for. I've been to DR twice before and I have to say that the Riu definitely has the best food for an all-inclusive. Plently of variety there and my party did not get sick at all. Drinks are plentiful and the staff is polite and attentive. However, the only top-shelf liquor is at the casino and there is a charge for those drinks (but $5 for a 3-shot Jack Daniels in a snifter glass is a bargain). If you are looking to relax at the pool or the beach, this is a great spot to go. I found that the Bachata really caters to families and couples. The bar in the pool is also very convenient. Room and grounds are immaculate. This is a great location for good food, plenty of sun and a relaxing get away. Overall, definitely worth the money!

| Extremely friendly staff. Not much English spoken though. Food is pretty good but the beaches are not the best. Remember here is still the Atlantic Ocean, not the Caribbean. A kid friendly hotel. Beware of the European topless middle aged sunbathing women. I would recommend this to anyone.

| ok, the hotel was about a 25 to 30 minute cab ride from the airport... the only suggestion i would make here is a shuttle service (paid $85 to get to and from the hotel), otherwise, it was a great time... did NOT want to come back home! everyone was great, very polite and helpful, place was beautiful, our room was excellent... it faced the ocean and about 75 ft. from a cliff... took beautiful pics there... food could have been better.... there was not enough typical dominican food there... although the food was pretty good, would have been better if there was a bigger dominican selection of food... nightlife was fun, entertainment was good, had a "Michael Jackson" show, and although i am not really into "Mike", was still excellent... they did a great job! the good thing about this hotel is that it is part of a chain of 3 hotels, and you can go to all 3 hotels to hang out, eat, lounge by the beach or pool... there was one nightcub and everyone from the 3 hotels went there to hang out, more people made it much more fun
