Features
What to expect: When guests enter this grand hotel from Michigan Avenue, they often stop to look up at the frescoed ceiling of clouds and angels. Tourists take pictures on the grand staircase while badge-wearing conventioneers socialize in the expansive, chandeliered lobby. With so many guestrooms and meeting spaces, the hotel is always bustling. Amenity highlights: The full-service health club (fee) is housed in a bright, spacious room with state-of-the-art cardio equipment and weight-training machines, surrounded by a running track, which is free for guests. The indoor pool, complete with palm trees, poolside food service, two spas, and a sundeck, is also free. There are locker rooms, a tanning bed, and a sauna as well. Insider tip: If guests can’t make it to the Art Institute, they can browse the third-floor Steven’s Gallery, an intimate art gallery of commissioned and purchased art by international artists.
Buckingham’s - This classy steak-and-seafood restaurant, paneled in polished mahogany, has a clubby atmosphere decorated with watercolors, paintings, and drawings by Chicago artists that portray the restaurant’s namesake—Buckingham Fountain across the street in Grant Park. At the marble-topped bar, diners may start the evening with a fine wine or martini, and wind down with a single-malt scotch whiskey and a cigar from the large humidor. The menu includes fine cuts of beef, and seafood selections change seasonally. Open for dinner and cocktails daily, Buckingham’s also hosts Sunday brunch in the Normandie Lounge. The Pavilion - This casual restaurant opens onto the ornate lobby, and serves breakfast, lunch, dinner and late-night meals until 1 AM. The menu features Mediterranean-influenced cuisine with a variety of pasta, seafood, and chicken dishes. Kitty O’Shea's Irish Pub - With exchange students from Ireland working as serving staff, and Irish beers on tap, Kitty O’Shea's feels like a real Irish pub. The menu includes shepherd’s pie, potato soup, and burgers. Local Irish bands take to a small stage most nights Thursday through Sunday. The pub is open Monday through Friday until 2 AM and opens at noon on weekends. Lakeside Green Lounge - During the day, the lobby lounge offers a quiet area for guests to relax on leather couches, read the newspaper, watch the morning news on TV, or sip coffee at a high-top bar table. In the evening, the lounge transforms into a swanky club where martinis flow, and the bar serves appetizer-type munchies.

| My family and I had a good time at the hotel and in Chicago. Having two teenage girls with us made it more enjoyable when we had the two bathrooms in our room. We also took advantage of the free hotel shuttle to get to the Magnificant Mile. The only downfalls were the shuttle's last pick up was at 5PM and only one shuttle was available. If you missed the shuttle or it was full, you had to wait another hour or find an alternate means of travel. The hotel was a good location for Grant Park and Shedd's Aquarium. We were able to take the free trolley from the hotel to Shedd's. Just remember the last trolley runs at 6PM. We have stayed at this hotel before and plan to return again.

| Employees were extremely helpful and very friendly. Hotel security and doormen were present at all times. Appreciated safe feeling. Adult swimming area was not marked - had some trouble with too many kids playing around.

| Was throughly impressed with hotel. Very beautiful old hotel in very good condition. Room was very clean & spacious. I had a reservation for a single, but when I checked in they gave me two double beds with two bathrooms. Not needed for a single traveler, but the room was huge & it was kind of fun to decide which shower to shower in! The lobby is beautiful. Must check out the ballroom, kind of place you can imagine must have seen the wealthiest of the wealthy back in the 1920's/30's. People very friendly & helpful. Only negative was that the healthclub charged a daily rate. It's not included in your room rate. But I would certainly recommend this hotel. Very nice experience, & I hope to go back soon.

| As a single Dad with 2 daughters (8 & 5), this hotel experience could not have been any better. At that age, they're not too much into site seeing, and would rather stay close to the room, which was very comfortable with 2 double beds and 2 bathrooms. The pool offered the most excitement and was available during more than reasonable hours. When we did venture out, taxi service was conveniently located right outside the main door. Other attractions and very good eating establishments were within walking distance.
