Features
What to expect: A 42-inch plasma-screen faux fireplace is a fun focal point in the lobby of this 15-story hotel. Hip business travelers and trendy weekenders find a 1960s decor that blends cool kitsch and Bauhaus modernism with a Texas sense of humor—cowhide rugs, fake-fur chairs, a lit Lucite chess table, and swanky leather seating.
Amenity highlights: The hotel has a secluded and quiet relaxation pool with a dramatic, chrome-accented waterfall. Its terrace is sheltered from city noise and has cushioned teak chaise lounges. The 24-hour fitness center offers treadmills with personal theaters, cardio and weight equipment, elliptical trainers, and free weights. The Derek Mobile, a black stretch SUV, offers complimentary transportation to business meetings or shopping.
Insider tip: Set beneath spectacular glass atriums, the Galleria has 375 fine shops, restaurants, and an ice rink. Stores include Neiman Marcus, Cartier, Gucci, Tiffany & Co., Saks Fifth Avenue, Ralph Lauren Collection, Lord & Taylor, a flagship Foley's, and Nordstrom.
bistro moderne - This sophisticated bistro offers classic French selections, such as hangar steak and stuffed mussels, on its café-style menu. With general seating for up to 110 on sofa-style banquettes and a private function room for 40, the bistro makes both guests and locals at home amid wide-plank, white-washed wood floors and custom millwork.

| We stayed at the Derek for 7 days while we moved out of our Houston house and closed on the sale. We had a very pleasant stay with no complaints of any sort. This is not a "mega-hotel" and we enjoyed the smaller scale of the hotel. We brought our grandson Derek to see his "namesake" hotel, and the staff were very nice and gave him a souvenir "Hotel Derek" cap. Also, the rate we got through Expedia was outstanding.

| Hotel Derek is located in the Galleria area of Houston. It is very contemporary in style with very comfortable beds and wonderful bathrooms. The soaps and shampoos are first class. Try the restaurant.

| Room was comfortable. The restaurant was fantastic. Traffic tough to get in and out, but a policeman stationed at the entrance helped. Bathtub didn't drain well, but maintenance was notified upon checkout. Shower head pressure was wonderful. It really was an enjoyable experience.

| Hotel Derek is a bad bang for the buck. Room service never came by and there were additional expenses on my bill. The fridge had the previous guests' leftovers in it. Which proves that the additonal minibar charges were due to them b/c no one checked the minibar after they checked out. I will never go back. Hotel Derek cuts too many corners. Not a nice stay.

| Room could have been cleaned better than it had been. Staff at the front desk is extremely slow, and did not seem to care about the line of guests waiting to be served.
