| The Socorro Econo Lodge looked like the typical 1950's "hole in the wall" on the main road running through Socorro. With truck traffic and a super "big box" across the street, I did not expect much and hoped for a clean room for the night. After a week dealing with three other reputedly "better motels" in southern New Mexico, my husband and I had little hopes for this, the last dump on our trip.When we arrived in the suite, we could not have been more surprised and delighted! For the same price as a single room in other locations in the state, we were treated to a full living room, complete with kitchen facilites, bedroom and a newly renovated bath. The place was clean and attractive--even by East Coast standards.In addition, the EconoLodge boasts a complimentary "best breakfast bar in town." It probably was although I had no actual measure for comparison. This spot was a gem in spite of the lack of atmosphere outside.
