We have stayed here on previous trips to Whittier and the experiences were neither good or bad. This trip turned out to be a bit more of an effort. The negatives: 1) Friday nights are Salsa Nights: LOUD! with multiple live bands and people partying around the pool until after 1am. If you need to sleep be sure to get a room that doesn't face the pool! Ours was on the 1st floor; the music and people (right outside our poolside sliding door) were LOUD! 2) Our local friends came early and left us a welcome basket in our room - EXCEPT that when we checked in they put us in a different room! Our room had been re-assigned to another guest and the basket removed (to storage); we didn't find out until the next day when our friends asked if we'd received it. 3) Breakfast is okay if you go with the buffet. We ordered from the menu and it took 40 minutes, even though it wasn't busy. Positives: 1) management did relocate us (again) to a quieter room. 2) They did find our welcome basket.

My first negative experience was with front desk clerk whom was unfriendly, robot-like behavior, she assigned me to a smoking room when a Non-smoking was requested, she advised all other rooms were already reserved (I was checking in at 4pm on a Saturday in a non-resort location). She communicated that Expedia had a deal "with them" not the hotel with Expedia, therefore they did not have to guarantee preferred choice of room. It was only after I complaint and requested to see a manager that another clerk helped me and amazingly found a non smoking room for me. The bathroom toilet did not flush unless you held down the handle, only one of the electrical outlets in bathroom worked, the coffee maker had to be unplugged in order to use hair dryer.

I reserved a room with 2 beds. Turns out many other people had also done so, so they substituted a room with a King bed. When pressed, they supplied a rollaway for the second bed.

The shower in our hotel room did'nt work right and this is the only thing that kept me from giving this hotel all 5's. Really liked Whittier. Nice older historic looking town. Eat at the rocky cola cafe. 50's style diner with great food. Just north of the hotel.

It's a good price hotel. It may take more than an hour to get to L.A. Traffic on I-5 was so bad, moving inch by inch.

This hotel is a bit out of the way...a car is a must. However, if you don't care about location and want a cheap, basic room in a clean hotel, this would be fine. No decent food options in the hotel (room service, etc.). We stayed on a weekend and there were several events going on both evenings (weddings, etc). The ballrooms are right off the lobby so it can get rather noisy and crowded.
