| The Trader's Hotel is a part of the Shangri-La Chain which is generally nice, but the Trader's Hotel in Penang is really a nice three star hotel, rather than a 4-5 star. I would stay there for business, but I would look elsewhere first to find another hotel. But you must know that Penang was not the Pearl of the Orient as it has been labeled by many websites.

| Stayed 3 nights while on holiday in late April 06 with my husband. Located a bit of a walk from the main restaurant area but does adjoin a decent shopping centre. Hotel has recently switched from being a full Shangri-La to a Traders Hotel which is a little downmarket from the top Shangri-La standard. Note however that we were given twin beds when we requested a king bed and as leisure travellers, we were pushed behind business travellers who were residing individually in rooms but got the king sized bed!
