Features
What to expect: The hotel, located 1 block from the 16th Street Mall, appeals to mature, high-end travelers who desire top-drawer service and modern amenities in a distinct, historical setting. The lobby draws visitors daily who want to see its eight-story atrium, a grand space ringed by 700-plus wrought iron grills from the third through seventh floors and capped by a stained glass canopy.

Amenity highlights: Guests have five dining and drinking options: the Palace Arms, a formal room with 900 wines; seafood and brews at Ship Tavern; scotch and cigars at the Churchill Bar; Ellyngton's, famed for its Sunday champagne brunch and tuxedo-attired waiters; and the atrium, where afternoon tea is served daily and martinis mixed nightly. More perks: complimentary high-speed Internet access, twice-daily housekeeping, and tours led by the hotel historian.

Insider tip: History buffs have a lot to see in downtown Denver, including the Colorado History Museum, the Native American collection at the Denver Art Museum, and the Black American West Museum, which tells the story of the West's African-American cowhands and pioneers. Other area historical highlights include the Buffalo Bill Memorial Museum and Grave and the Wings Over the Rockies Air and Space Museum.

Palace Arms - Formal service, large portions, a 900-choice wine selection, and a chef who presents each dish to the guests are hallmarks of this quiet restaurant, decorated with antiques dating from 1670—including a pair of dueling pistols said to have belonged to Napoleon and Louisa—and furnished with meticulously set tables, red-leather booths, and 22 flags that are replicas of revolutionary battle flags.

Churchill Bar - Located just off the atrium and across from the Palace Arms, this cigar bar is a quiet hideaway with red-leather wingback chairs and sofa, a library, and premium spirits, including single-malt scotches and small-batch bourbons. Lunch and hors d'oeuvres are also served.

Ship Tavern - Lunch and dinner are served at this casual restaurant and bar, which evokes early American waterfront taverns, with its crow's nest in the center of the room, model Clipper ships, and nautical decor. Onion soup, prime rib, seafood, signature beers, and the piano cabaret are highlights.

Ellyngton's - The hotel's main dining room—a curved room with windows overlooking Denver's financial district—serves breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch, and is known locally as the place where power brokers make deals. Advance reservations are recommended for the Sunday champagne brunch, which features a breakfast buffet, cold selections, carved meats and fish, an assortment of fresh pastries, and three kinds of bubbly.

Atrium Lobby - Formal afternoon tea, for which reservations are recommended, is served every afternoon in the hotel's lobby, which is centered around an eight-story atrium capped by an original stained-glass canopy. In the evening, bartenders craft drinks from the hotel's martini cart while a pianist performs.

Hotel is very beautiful & has a lot of history. Service was great and so were the rooms, which were a nice size. The bathroom showed it age, and the tub needed to be replaced. Overall, I would definitely stay there again.

the hotel was beautiful and the staff was very friendly and informative, but for such a classy hotel the rooms did not have a refrigerator or coffeepot. There was a restaurant downstairs but we went around the corner to a great restaurant for breakfast, named the Delectable Egg. This is the place to go for great food and very friendly staff.

The service is great...friendly staff, excellent food service including an amazing Sunday brunch, great cabaret in the Ship's Tavern, and a fantastic spa. My only complaint is that the bathroom in my room needed maintenance, particularly the shower and sink, both of which drained very slowly. But I will return to the Brown next visit!

I live in a Denver suburb, and when I have business for exteneded days downtown I always stay here. The service is beyond reproach, the dining is top notch (Ellyington's for breakfast is superb), and the fairly new spa is luxury defined. Enjoy YOUR stay.
