Europa Hotel Amenities
If anything characterises the Basque country, it is its excellent cuisine and the quality of its restaurants. Basque traditional cuisine, based on simple elaboration processes bases its success on the quality of the raw materials (fish, meat, cheese, etc.) on a parallel level, new trends are appearing in Basque nouvelle cuisine, which incorporates new ingredients, aromas, texture and combinations. In the world of food there is the Michelin guide award given to those restaurants that deserve to be honoured for the quality of their cooking. We have various restaurants that have received this award, a total of 15 Michelin stars, a record that would be very difficult for other regions to match. Pintxos: The counters of many bars have a good stock of 'Pintxos', tiny portions of the widest possible variety of dishes and the most intricate dishes reduced to their minimum expression and developed through what is now know as 'miniature cooking'. In numerous Basque towns there are certain areas with a concentration of taverns and bars which specialize in the preparation of these gastronomic jewels. In the old quarter (500 metres from the hotel) eating Pintxos is usually accompanied by 'Poteo' or bar hopping, which consist in drinking wine, cider or 'Zuritos' (small glasses of beer), moving from one establishment to the next.
