Disney's Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground Amenities
Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground is nestled amid towering pine trees and native vegetation within the Walt Disney World® Resort, just two miles from Magic Kingdom® Park. Guests check in at the rustic Reception Outpost, which has a stone fireplace, wood-beamed ceiling, and rocking chairs. The large resort borders Bay Lake, and log cabins and paved campsites are situated throughout the woods, connected via a series of roads. The property is extensive enough that it offers its own on-site transportation system: along with bicycles, guests can rent motorized golf cart–like vehicles to get around the grounds.

In addition, complimentary Disney transportation (via motorcoach and water launch) zips guests throughout the campgrounds and to all Disney theme parks, water parks, and the Downtown Disney® Area. Campsites are available with full (electric, water, and sewage) or partial hookups (electric and water). Air-conditioned comfort stations with restrooms and private showers are located near all campsites. There are also laundry facilities on site.

The resort offers lots of recreational activities. A white-sand beach on Bay Lake isn’t far from the marina with boat rentals. Over at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch, a blacksmith prepares horses for the daily trail rides while kids enjoy the petting farm. Pony, hay wagon, and carriage rides are available. And located throughout the resort are fishing spots, tennis courts, jogging trails, two pools, a game arcade, and volleyball, shuffleboard, and tetherball courts. Several dining options include musical shows and meals with Disney Characters. Poolside dining is available in season, and a country store with camp-related groceries is on site.

    Recreation
Located on Bay Lake, the resort includes its own sandy white beach and marina with boat rentals. Over at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch, a blacksmith prepares horses for the daily trail rides, while kids enjoy the petting farm. Guests can also take pony, hay-wagon, and carriage rides. Located throughout the resort are tennis courts, bike rentals, and volleyball, shuffleboard, basketball, and tetherball courts. There are also two heated pools and two game arcades on the property. A two-to-three mile jogging path runs through the campground. Chartered fishing excursions are available on Bay Lake.

Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park and 36-hole Fantasia Gardens Miniature Golf Course are both within seven miles of the resort via complimentary Disney transportation. The resort’s guest services can assist with reservations at any one of Disney’s five tour-caliber golf courses, all located on Walt Disney World® Resort property. A nine-hole walking course is also available.

The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or near the hotel; fees may apply.

    Features
Disney’s Magical Express: Guests of this resort are eligible for Disney’s Magical Express Service – motorcoaches take you from Orlando International Airport to your Disney Resort hotel, while Disney picks up your bags and take them straight to your room. And when your vacation is over, you and your bags are whisked from the Disney Resort hotel back to the airport. This offer is good through October 2006.

What to expect: Just two miles from Magic Kingdom® Park, towering pines and lush Florida vegetation create a spectacular wilderness experience within the Walt Disney World® Resort. A warm “how-dee-doo” welcome greets arriving guests at the rustic Reception Outpost with its stone fireplace, wood-beamed ceiling, and tree-carved rocking chairs. Horseback riders can be seen passing by on the campground trails.

Amenity highlights: Located on Bay Lake, the resort includes its own white-sand beach and marina with boat rentals. Young guests can visit the children’s petting farm while teens and adults ride horses at the Tri-Circle-D Ranch. In addition, the resort offers bike rentals, a game arcade, the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revuedinner show, and Chip ’n Dale character breakfast at Pioneer Hall.

Insider tip: Guests can join the fun of Disney movies and lots of laughs each night as Chip ’n Dale host campfire sing-a-longs at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground (complimentary for resort guests). Dress is pajama-casual. In cases of rain, “Porch Jam” sing-a-longs take place at the Meadow Swimmin’ Hole.

It is a good place to stay. But transportation to Disney theme parks is not as good as other resort: you have to take camp ground bus then transfer to theme park bus. Service is good, but didn't meet my expectation for a Disney resort. The maid forgot to make one of the bed and clean coffee machine. But compared to other Disney resort of the same room size, it is a bargain.

We enjoyed our stay and the bus service was excellent. The only negative thing was the high prices on the groceries at the Trading post.

Cabins were nice and housekeeping was excellent, cabins are far from the pools and the "action" needed to rent a golf cart ($300.00) for 6 days!!to get around camp ground that's how far everything was away from cabin. No hot tubs at this resort.

We enjoyed our visit to the cabins at Fort Wilderness Resort and Campground. They were very comfortable for our family of six and the refrigerator and two T.V.s were a plus. Expect to wait to get anywhere, though as the property is spread out and you must take a shuttle to get to the entrance to transfer to buses to the parks. Also had problems with the service when we requested replenished supplies (coffee packets).

As a family of five we enjoyed the spacious cabin. Service at the hotel was slow for check in but all personnel were friendly and did everything they could help with everything. Only wish they had a food court type restaraunt on site. The deck with grill came in handy for a few less expensive meals at home.

The cabins are ideal for a family. They sleep six comfortably. However, there is not a lot of "storage" space.

We visited Fort Wilderness in early October when the crowds were less than in high season and had a blast. The cabins are well equipped (plenty of towels) and are cleaned daily like a hotel room. They are all detached so no noisy neighbours to worry about. Renting a golf cart is a must for ease of getting around the resort($45 a day). The Fort Wilderness buses are frequent enough but a cart saves waiting, especially at the end of a long day at a theme park. Book well in advance of arrival as they get booked out quickly. There is a petting zoo, swimming pools, horse rides, canoe and bike rental, tennis courts plus play parks all at the Fort so plenty to do when not going to a theme park. The Trails Inn Restaurant all you can eat buffet is good. You get to the Magic Kingdom via a 15 min boat ride and the other Disney parks by bus. Longest we had to wait was 10 mins for a bus and 15 mins for the boat. If you want to do a character breakfast, lunch or dinner book before you arrive as they are very popular. If you like fish the Coral Reef restaurant at Epcot is excellent with a great view of the aquarium. Again book in advance. We will definitely go back to Fort Wilderness as it represents good value for money, the cabins were clean, roomy enough and private and it was easy to get to all Disney parks from there.
