Features
What to expect: The palatial lobby of this 10-story Magnificent Mile hotel features a neoclassical decor with carved molding, crystal chandeliers, and jacquard-rose curtains. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the 1920 hotel has hosted royalty and celebrities as well as business and leisure travelers.
Amenity highlights: The Palm Court hosts a traditional English tea each afternoon, and the hotel's Cape Cod Room features a wood bar with carved signatures of Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio, and other celebrities. A shopping arcade houses an art gallery, jeweler, florist, gift shop, and Chanel boutique. The hotel offers 30,000 square feet of event space, including two ballrooms, with high-speed Internet access available (surcharge).
Insider tip: The highly connected concierge can secure premier seats to concerts, symphonies, operas, and theater performances--including those that are sold out--and arrange for tables at restaurants, even when no reservations are available.
Cape Cod Room - Specializing in seafood dishes--including lobster, bouillabaisse, and crab cakes--this popular restaurant features a nautical decor, checkered napkins and tablecloths, and light fixtures made from copper pots. A wooden bar has carved signatures of notable guests dating from the restaurant's opening in 1933. Open for lunch and dinner. Drake Bros. - Offering superb views of Lake Michigan, this steakhouse is decorated with black-and-white vintage Chicago photography and red walls paneled in wood. Open for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch. Coq d’Or - This intimate lounge is a throwback to its Prohibition past, with dim lighting, low ceilings, and brick-red leather booths and bar stools. Martinis are the drink specialty, and a short menu features dishes from the Cape Cod Room, including clam chowder and whitefish. Lunch and dinner are served daily, and a jazz band performs each night. Palm Court - Located in the hotel’s upper lobby, this Chicago tradition hosts cocktails, coffee, and traditional English tea next to an antique marble fountain. A harpist plays at teatime, and a jazz trio entertains most weeknights.

| The Drake is a classic hotel experience, the best of the past with all the modern conveniences subtly included. Every part of the experience was first rate from the lovely entry to the elegant decore to the impecible service. Dining was also a pleasure - no need to go far from the hotel for a most pleasant stay. And yet the best of shopping starts just across the street. I will try to make this an annual event from now on.

| This is the best hotel in which I have ever had the opportunity to stay. From the grandiosity of the accomodations to small details, such as the attentive housekeeping and concierge services, each amenity was more luxurious than the last. The Drake is the grande dame of all Chicago hotels.

| I chose this hotel based on Expedia reviews and felt I was well informed of what to expect. The Drake is an older hotel, with smaller rooms than most. However, the room was still lovely, with a comfortable bed and a larger bathroom than most hotels. It was also very clean. My only one complaint is that the room was a bit warm. The staff tried to fix this, but were unable to, sowe just cracked a window and were fine. Overall a very nice stay for us!

| The Drake Hotel is a very old, but elegant hotel. The rooms were somewhat old fashioned, but the beds were very comfortable, with a padded mattress and good pillows and linens. The service was exceptional. Every request and question was answered promptly. The bathroom again was old, but spacious, though it lacked counterspace. The towels were somewhat scratchy, due to the ribbing. Afternoon tea, in the Palm Court, was delightful and included an elegant harpist playing throughout. Self parking is available, for a much lower rate than the hotel valet parking, just a few doors down from the main entrance. The location is close to good shopping, restaurants at all levels and a movie theater, down Oak Street.
