Hotel California Amenities
Just a half-block off the beach, this small boutique hotel on the beach side of Ocean Avenue has a small footpath leading to the sand and surf of Santa Monica Beach. The pier is a block away, and restaurants and shops are within walking distance. Inspired by California’s breezy style, the pensione-style hotel doesn’t have a pool or a restaurant, but it does have lots of charm, rooms with hardwood floors, and a quiet Spanish-style courtyard. Surfboards hang on the outside of the building, which is two floors without an elevator, and décor in rooms and suites includes surfboard-shaped headboards and movie posters on the wall (all rooms are different). Complimentary wireless Internet access is available in all units, and the front desk—which is open from early morning to early morning, but not 24 hours—has a computer at the front desk that guests can use as well. Guests enjoy discounted privileges at the pool, fitness room, sauna, and steam room of the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel next door. Laundry facilities on site are complimentary. Guests can park in a lot across the street for $15/day or in the lot for the adjacent Loews for the same price.

The hotel doesn’t have a pool but it does have a footpath to the beach, which is only a half-block away. Guests also enjoy discounted privileges at the Loews Santa Monica Beach Hotel’s facilities next door ($15; subject to change), which include an outdoor pool overlooking the beach, steam room and sauna, and fitness center. A half-block from the hotel is Santa Monica Beach, which offers sunning, swimming, people-watching, and shopping along the Third Street Promenade. There is also a 25-mile-long oceanside path that begins at the Santa Monica Pier and is a popular venue for in-line skating, biking, and jogging. | Loved the quaint 1950's bugalow style hotel. Right near the beach. Nothing fancy, but excellent bed w/ 400 count sheets!
