Outrigger Keauhou Beach Resort Amenities
Within an eight-minute drive of Kailua-Kona and the shops and golf courses of Keauhou, the hotel is adjacent to Kahaluu Beach, which provides some of the best snorkeling on the island. The resort's 10 oceanfront acres were once home to an ancient Hawaiian community, and foundations of two temples, a canoe landing, and petroglyphs remain on the property.

Guests enjoy a Friday prime rib and seafood buffet, or watch the sunset from a terrace bar suspended over tide pools that shelter reef fish and sea turtles. The hotel's spa and salon provides hair care, massage therapy, aromatherapy, and skin-care treatments (surcharge). A freeform outdoor pool has an adjacent children's pool, and guests can work out in a fitness center or play tennis on one of six courts.

An Expedia!fun(™) kiosk in the hotel allows guests to book vacation activities, tours, attractions, and services during their stay.

Valet and self parking:
$5-$15 per 24-hour period.
Fee does not include tax and is subject to change without prior notification.

Recreation
The hotel hugs Kahaluu Beach, a snorkeling beach that is frequented by the green sea turtles that feed in the 10-acre hotel's tide pools. Six tennis courts are set amid tropical gardens and grassy lawns with hammocks. A health spa, outdoor freeform pool, and fitness center are also on site.

One mile from the hotel, Kona Country Club features two 18-hole golf courses, a driving range, chipping and putting practice greens, and a clubhouse with a pro shop and restaurant. The marina of sheltered Keauhou Bay, also one mile away, offers kayaking, snorkeling, sailing, scuba diving, and fishing excursions (surcharge).

The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or near the hotel; fees may apply.

What to expect: Colorful flags mark the entrance to an open-air lobby decorated with a koa outrigger canoe, feather lei, and paintings depicting Hawaiian history. Amenity highlights: Leisure options include a freeform outdoor pool and children's pool, a fitness center, and six tennis courts. A health spa provides a range of treatments (surcharge), including massage therapy, facials, and hair and nail care. On-site dining options include an open-air restaurant, a terrace lounge with sunset views, and a casual bar and grill.

Insider tip: A 20-minute drive from the hotel, amid the plantations of South Kona coffee country, the 15-acre Amy Greenwell Ethnobotanical Garden supports native Hawaiian plant resources. Visitors can rest in the shade of sandalwood or stroll along pathways to learn about plants used for food, cordage, and medicine. Guided tours are available (surcharge).

Kamaaina Terrace - Adjacent to the pool, this open-air restaurant serves tropically inspired dishes using fresh local ingredients. A Friday-evening prime rib and seafood buffet and Saturday lobster night are popular. Open for breakfast, dinner, and Sunday brunch.

Verandah Lounge - Suspended over tide pools, this open-air terrace bar serves cocktails and appetizers from early afternoon until late evening, with live Hawaiian music nightly.

Kalanikai Bar & Grill - A take-out garden pavilion offering such casual fare as sandwiches, salads, burgers, and island-style plate lunches. Open from late morning until mid-afternoon.

My sister and I stayed at the Outrigger because we wanted to be close to a snorkeling beach. This hotel was very near a great spot, the locals refer to the beach as "Turtle Beach." There are many sea turtles and other sea life. It was a good value, great ocean view, restaurant on the premises and very comfortable. I would recommend it and would stay again. It was not as fancy as some but being budget minded, it afforded us the opportunity to spend our money on activities.

I would definetly return to the Outrigger. I just had to look over the railing on my lanai or on the terrace at the restaurant to see turtles, all types of fish and eels. I even saw dolphins one day. Most of the service personell were excellant. My room was a decent size and quite comfortable.

We stayed in a room with a partial ocean view. The location of the hotel was gorgeous, but the room itself wasn't so great. We got a 'deal' at $150 per night, but the walls were so thin that we were awakened each morning at 4:00 am by the people next door. The bathroom was a bit old and scummy as well. However, the bar on the water was awesome, and we saw the turtles come into sleep on a rock right off the deck. I wouldn't stay there again, unless I had money coming out of my ears and I could get a full oceanview room with no neighbors. But it was our honeymoon, so it was great none the less.

After staying at nicer places on Oahu for a week this was a definte change on the downside but you get what you pay for. The hotel is old and shows it in the rooms. The lobby, dining areas and grounds are very nice. The big plus was the ocean areas around the hotel. The kids could wade in the ocean next to the hotel(with foot protection) and see alot of fish and turtles. They loved it.

Having read some other reviews I was a little worried about how this hotel would be but all worries were soon laid to rest. The location is just amazing - it really is the best snorkeling beach on the island - and we saw sunbathing turtles from the verandah bar several times. The public areas downstairs are all extremely nice - fitness room is new and well kept. Elevators and corridors have definitely seen better days and could do with paint and a change of carpet but that's not a major negative. The room itself also could have benefited from a new carpet but bed was great, bathroom was small but perfectly suitable and we had plenty of fresh linens daily. Overall no real complaints and I would have no problem recommending it.

For some reason, the bathroom looks outdated and not well maintained (old bathtub, paint of cabinet speeling off). It seems that the room has been re-modelled but the bathroom. And they don't provide WIFI in rooms where I believe that it is a common service provided in most hotels in this class (BTW, available in the main lobby).

We found this hotel to be a fun and convenient place to stay. It was moderately priced and needed some updating, but was clean. Great snorkeling beach right next door. Staff was friendly. Breakfast buffet was great! We would stay here again.

The lobby was nice and well kept but the carpet in our room was dirty and stained in many places. This made the room look and feel unclean and not comfortable.

We stayed at the Outrigger 2 weeks ago on a recent trip to Kailua Kona. We were extremely pleased with the service and accomodations. The deluxe ocean view rooms have a beautiful view -- the sunsets are magnificant. There is a beach next door that is fantastic for snorkeling -- especially if you have young kids because it is shallow enough for them and the currents aren't too strong. Lots of friendly sea turtles there too. The only complaint that we had with the hotel is that it is isolated away from the other hotels and attractions. There is a shopping center about 1 mile away -- they have free shuttles (not operated by the hotel) but not frequent enough. The main strip of restaurants and shops is several miles up the road. It is a $15 cab ride if you don't want to wait for the free shuttle (which can sometimes take 1-2 hours between visits).
