Features
What to expect: Entering the Provincial, with its checkerboard marble floors and tall windows, is like stepping into an antebellum world with air conditioning—one of its attractions for history-minded vacationers who stay here. The hotel comprises a collection of landmark buildings that include a former military hospital and circa-1830s living quarters. Spaces are furnished with antiques and art with a French accent.

Insider tip: Jackson Square is 2 blocks away, home to countless street musicians and clairvoyants, as well as some of the city's most historic buildings. One of the oldest is the Cabildo, where the Louisiana Purchase was signed in 1803.

Stella! - Named for one of the characters in A Streetcar Named Desire, this casually appointed restaurant has a beamed ceiling and plaid-upholstered seating. It offers updated takes on regional cuisine, and serves dinner only. Reservations are recommended. Dinner only.

Honfleur Bar - This little bar, with limited seating, is connected to Cafe Beignet.

The hotel has a lovely courtyard, and the rooms were comfortable. I heard no outside noise while we were there, but that may have been because we had a room on the interior of the property. It had easy access to the French Quarter, and I felt very safe.

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We had a couple questions about directions and restaurants and they were very happy to help us out. There are 5 different buildings in this hotel. We were in the one on Chartres, which would seem to be nice with doors that open over the street... But, it was VERY noisy in this room. We dealt with it and didn't get a very sound sleep. On the positive, we were very close to the Fr. Market and several restaurants, but away from the partying of Bourbon, which we liked. Stella, the hotels' restaurant was closed during the week, b/c of lack of helo. Overall, I would recommend this hotel if you are looking for a small, family owned hotel. It was a nice New Orleans experience.

This was our second stay at the Hotel Provincial, and we were once again very pleased with the service. A few of the amenities were not available (Feb. 19-24) due to renovations and repairs from Katrina, but this was expected. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel is close to everything, in a beautiful section of the French Quarter. One word of caution for travelers flying into NOLA is to AVOID the Airport Shuttle. We had no trouble last year, but this year was another story. It took 90 minutes to reach our hotel on a Sunday afternoon, and we were NOT PICKED UP at our hotel on Friday despite repeated phone calls. They even had my cell phone number but did not call me to tell me there was a problem. After waiting in front of my hotel for two hours and calling them three times, I was told that "there was a problem, and I'd better take a taxi." We made it to our gate as the plane was loading. My advice:Pay the extra dollar for a taxi and save yourself the time and aggravation.

My family just spent three nights at the Hotel Provincial and were very satisfied -- especially considering its reasonable price compared to other French Quarter hotels. Its location -- three blocks from Jackson Square -- can't be beat. Our room (a cut rate room reserved on Expedia) was comfortable, clean, quiet, and sunny. Our two school-aged girls enjoyed the pool. The hotel staff was very friendly.

Great location. Very close - 2 blocks - to Bourbon Street and a parking lot away from Decatour and The French Market. I felt it was the best of both worlds. However, when booking your room, make sure to ask for windows that do NOT face a wall and preferrably 2nd floor if you don't mind climbing the stairs - those are very creeky and woke us up at night a few times when people were walking to their rooms. Btw, there are no mosquito screens in the French Quater, so prepare yourself for an occasional mosquito visiting your room.
