Features
What to expect: An open-air lobby with whirring ceiling fans and a veranda looks toward a spacious lawn and pool complex. Pineapple-shaped slats on balconies enhance the rustic look. Lush gardens between buildings and the expansive oceanfront lawn create an only-in-Hawaii scene. Amenity highlights: Parallel to the ocean is an open lawn, on which lounge chairs can be set. The pool, sundeck, and large hot tub are ringed by hedges low enough so they don't interfere with the panoramic ocean view. Insider tip: East Kauai's Royal Coconut Coast is an 8-mile strip of sandy beaches, unsurpassed ocean views, and low-key activity. The Wailua River, fed by rainfall on Mt. Waialeale, the wettest spot on earth, provided abundant water for ancient Hawaiians to cultivate crops in this area. As a result, the coast abounds in archaeological sites worth visiting.
The Sand Bar - Next to the pool, this open-air spot serves light meals and tropical drinks Across the street, the Coconut Marketplace, a one-story open-air shopping-and-dining village, contains many restaurants and food stands.

| We used this hotel based on the reviews I read on this site. It is clear that the hotel is still trying to sort out growing pains as service was not 100%. That being said, our room was clean, comfortable and quiet. We had a porch from which we could connect to the free internet and we had a view of the ocean. Not a great hotel if you want to walk out of the room to swim; however, the location is great. Close to the airport and about equidistant to the north and southern ends of the island. We would definitely stay here again.

| For the price, this hotel is a wonderful place to stay. Try to get Ocean View Rooms - it makes a big difference. The hotel is also close to shopping, restuarants, etc. Highly recommended!

| Very relaxing comfortable stay. We had a beachfront room and it was beautiful. What can beat watching a sunrise on the Pacific from your own balcony?

| Just renewed. Small pool but a wonderful beach. A big market nearby with everything you need. First time in Hawaii but happy of the choice for this hotel category.

| Our recent stay at this hotel was very pleasant. We stayed in one of the Ocean View rooms which is well worth the extra money. The hotel grounds are very spacious and perfectly manicured. There are no elevators so be sure to ask the bell hops to bring your luggage to your room. If you get an ocern front room, you will love sitting on the balcony and enjoying the beautiful beach. The rooms also have a sitting area with a couch which converts to a sleeper for your kids if need be. The pool is pretty basic, but there is pool bar that was a great place to hang out in the late afternoons or evenings and meet some of the other guests who were all very friendly. As far as amenities, there is no hotel restaurant, but the hotel is adjacent to the Coconut Village which had several shops and restaurants where you could get everything from breakfast, pizza, ice cream, a great burger, or a nice dinner. The hotel had computers in the lobby for internet access which was pricey, but if you have your own lab top, you can access the wireless LAN in the lobby for free. You can also use your lab top in your room which cost just a few bucks all week. The only downer about the hotel is that the beach is not really swimmable due to the coral reef and strong undertoe in front of the hotel. It also rains often in Kauai, but people just go about there business since the showers rarely last more that a few minutes. Over all, I liked the Islander and found it a great value for the quality of hotel.

| I can hardly wait to go back to the Islander. Everthing was outstanding with 1 slight exception: The MaiTai at the pool was less than satisfactory but I'm sure that they can correct that.

| This is an older hotel but the rooms have been completely remodeled-beautiful. Very affordable too. Definitely get the Ocean Front Room-it really is ocean front-20 steps from the ocean. Very helpful staff. We enjoyed it more than the Kauai Marriot.
