| The Pink Palace of the Pacific that made Waikiki famous This turreted pink-stucco hotel has attracted travelers to its "old Hawaii" charm since its opening in 1927. A pink color scheme prevails—right down to the linens and plush towels in all 556 guestrooms. The hotel’s roped-off private beach is an exclusive setting for Outrigger canoeing, surf lessons, and Waikiki’s only oceanfront luau.

Royal Hawaiian Amenities
From a fresh-flower lei greeting to fresh banana bread served upon arrival, from sunning on a roped-off private beach to luaus on the beach, from the Queen Anne–style room decor to the tranquil lush-grass coconut grove outside the original entrance, Royal Hawaiian guests recognize this hotel is a special place where graceful hospitality is paramount and tradition is honored. The exercise facility and children’s programs are offered at the hotel’s sister Sheraton properties. Features
What to expect: Pink, as in sheets and towels. An international cast of regulars and first-timers accustomed to hushed, luxurious leisure. More pink, as in striped umbrellas and awnings. Lush gardens and grassy swaths throughout the 10-acre site. Even more pink, as in the lobby's vaulted ceiling and in the wood-beam ceiling of the lobby's T-shaped extension. Art deco touches like huge arched mirrors in the public spaces and above the hotel's shops. Still more pink, as in the long, frilly dresses worn by some female staff and in the shirts of male staff. Gorgeous floral rugs in the lobby. And, finally, blue, as in the large pots balancing atop exterior walls and containing spiky pale-green plants. Amenity highlights: The Royal Hawaiian offers Waikiki's only beach luau, including the music and dancing of The Royal Polynesian Extravaganza. Other distinctions include one of the only two private, roped-off beaches on Waikiki; the renowned, open-air Mai Tai Bar where (legend has it) the drink was invented; a luxurious, full-service health-and-beauty spa; and afternoon high tea service on the terrace overlooking a tranquil coconut grove. Insider tip: Clustered within two blocks of one another, Waikiki’s four Sheraton hotels offer the convenience of “Stay at One, Play at All” hospitality. Guests at any hotel are invited to enjoy dining, entertainment, and facilities—except swimming pools—at the other hotels while simply charging to their rooms. This hotel, for example, includes the health-and beauty Abhasa Waikiki Spa. Next door, the Sheraton Waikiki offers daily Keiki Aloha activities for kids 5–12, with morning, afternoon, and/or evening sessions as well as lunch and dinner options. The Sheraton Waikiki's fitness center, the Princess Kaiulani Hotel 24-hour medical clinic, and the Sheraton Moana Surfrider's famous Banyan Veranda afternoon high tea similarly are available to Royal Hawaiian guests.
The Surf Room - Situated alongside the beach, this fine-dining restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner with style and finesse. Hawaiian musical entertainment graces dinner. On Friday evenings, a seafood buffet complements the à la carte menu. Sunday brunch is another special attraction. Royal Beach Club Cafe - The spot for casual breakfast, light lunches, and afternoon snacks, the aptly named Beach Club is located near the beach and sundeck/pool. Mai Tai Bar - Beachfront bar providing superb view of Waikiki Beach and Diamond Head. Hawaiian music. Diamond Head plus Hawaiian music. Royal Luau - This traditional feast on the beach includes Hawaiian music and entertainment.

| When I heard that it was an old hotel, I was a little worried that it would be run-down, but it was not. It was beautiful and the empolyees were wonderful. Very, very clean! That is a big must for me. I would stay there again!

| This was an excellent hotel, right on Waikiki beach (which is much smaller than it looks). Service was first class as was the quality of the rooms. The hotel food was average and expensive, however, there are multiple options for dining out in all price ranges, all within walking distance. Would definitely return.

| The room and service was outstanding considering the hotel was booked full. We were allowed an extended stay in our room on the last day which made all the difference. The Concierge service was extremely helpful with both directions and in recommending restuarants. I would highly endorse this hotel for couples and families. 3 complaints: 1) There was a shortage of lounge chairs and umbrellas by the beach, 2) the food that was served by the pool lacked variety although the main restuarant was excellent, and 3) on one night there was loud, "bad pop/rock" music blasting throughout the garden area. I would have liked to see more traditional Hawaiian entertainment during our stay.

| The staff was incredible. It was the best service we had in Hawaii. The hotel is right on the beach with its own private chairs and umbrellas set up for the guest. Best Mai Tai's around at the Mai Tai Bar. Attended a wedding in the grove which was beautifully set up and the staff was very attentive to the wedding guest.

| The Royal Hawaiian is a really old hotel so the ammenities reflect its age. If you're into the classic look and feel then it's the right hotel for you. If you want a bathroom with a shower or a one that's bigger than a closet then RH isn't for you.

| This lovely hotel was an oasis of calm, dignity, and Hawaiin charm on the otherwise crowded and bustling Waikiki Beach. We enjoyed having supper from the menu at the Mai Tai Bar. It was outside, with a lovely view of the beach, Hawaiian band, excellent food and delicious tropical drinks. If you want more crowds and excitement, just step down the beach to one of the nearby hotels. But you will be glad to return "home" to the "Pink Palace."

| The Royal Hawaiian is the most architecturally interesting of the Waikiki beachfront hotels. It's a classic resort hotel. Ultimately, a hotel room is a hotel room -- these are quite nice. But, the lobby and other public spaces, the beachfront bar, the fenced off beach are what really make th RH special and stand above the others.
