Features
What to expect: This intimate, 62-room hotel comprises three late-19th-century townhouses along a quiet residential street. Across from the hotel are the Rijksmuseum, home of works by Rembrandt, Vermeer, and other masters, and the Van Gogh Museum, with a vast collection of Van Gogh paintings. Stained-glass windows, crystal chandeliers, art prints, warm burgundy carpets, and dark woodwork set the tone in the lobby and other public rooms.

Amenity highlights: The chic Wines & Bites bar overlooking a patio garden features wines by the half-bottle, along with small “bites” and a plat du jour. The room is decorated in black and white, with touches of red and chrome, a handsome wooden bar, and upholstered chairs.

The hotel offers a private spa with a steam room, massaging recliner, sun bed, and spa tub overlooking the private garden. The spa is stocked with essential oils and soaps, bathrobes, and a minibar, and it can be reserved by one or two guests. There is a surcharge for use of the spa.

Insider tip: The townhouses along the Jan Luijkenstraat, where the hotel is located, are known for their traditional tiled entryways. The hotel can provide a printed self-guided tour highlighting the most interesting ones, with details of their history.

Wines & Bites - Drinks, afternoon coffee, appetizers, and light meals are served in this contemporary room with a patio garden and historic architectural details. The room is decorated in black and white, with red-and-chrome accents and plenty of upholstered chairs. Open from late morning until midnight.

Breakfast room - This breakfast room with stained-glass windows serves a buffet breakfast each morning.

We enjoyed our stay here. The rooms, though tiny, are efficient and very modern. We faced the street and had a nice big window. The lobby, and the downstairs rooms were all nicely decorated. Service was excellent and we got a lot of good advice. Breakfast was expensive, 16 euros, so we did not bother but the basement breakfast room was also very pretty.

We were close to museums, some shopping, canal boats and bus tours. The rooms were small. The one that we reserved needed to be upgraded to fit our suitcases (we had more than usual because of the beginning of our trip) and even at that it was small. We had airconditioning..... a plus in the unusually hot weather. The breakfast was nicely done and a small restaurant for light meals helped immensely our first night.

Our room overlooked a small but leafy courtyard and was very clean, well-equipped, and comfortable. The common areas such as the lobby, bar, and breakfast room, were tastefully decorated with Art Deco tiles and other touches. Staff was very friendly and helpful. The location was great---one block to the Van Gogh museum, one block to the Rijksmuseum, and two blocks to the Vondelpark. Cafes and bus stops were also within 5 minutes walking distance. Although we weren't highly impressed with Amsterdam overall (graffiti, litter, etc.), the hotel was in a good area that even had designer shops one street away. This hotel was the best of the three (others in Paris and Leiden) during our stay in Europe!

As other reviews have mentioned, this is a great boutique hotel. It is located within a five minute walk of several museums, chic designer label shopping (Chanel, Bally, Dolce & Gabbana, Cartier, etc.) & dining (too many to suggest). The Leidsplien and Heineken Experience are also within a ten minute walk. If walking isn't your thing then the tram line running through heart of the city is one block away. Two Euros will get you pretty much anywhere you want to go. Also, most importantly and not to be forgotten is the great staff. All were very friendly and made our stay quite enjoyable.

Second time at this hotel and this time was even better. Had two rooms one for my wife and myself, and one for my two children. Extremely close to the museums. Very chic Shopping area's nearby (my daughters loved this) not my wallet:-). Hard rock is right down the street. We had a great time. Family friendly place and relaxing. The Spa is nice for two! Try it out.

First of all, its in the upscale suburb; the street behind the hotel has Chanel, Cartier, etc..and its 2 blocks away from the Rijikmuseum and 1 block from the Van Gogh. The Service was good, the Hotel staff very friendly. The Single oom was a bit small. If I go again, I'll opt for the superior room. Its near all the major shopping and tram lines...all in all a good hotel.

The excellent location and friendly staff more than compensated for the small room size. In fact, once organized we found the room quite comfortable for the times we were actually in the room. Close to museums and good restaurants, quiet and safe, we would use this hotel again.
