Features
What to expect: A luxurious retreat just across the Potomac from the bustle of Washington, D.C., this hotel attracts a discerning clientele of business travelers looking for unique accommodations and leisure guests seeking a romantic getaway. The hotel is a perfect reproduction of a Federal-style mansion, complete with a parlor and library, luxurious silk wallpaper, Italian marble floors, and period engravings on the walls.

Amenity highlights: Guestrooms evoke Alexandria’s colonial past, with references to nautical and international trade and local history. Each room is individually furnished: Some rooms have two-poster beds, others four-posters. Some include fireplaces, some crystal chandeliers. The hotel’s public areas have neoclassical moldings and pediments, and antique furnishings. With only 45 guestrooms, it is small enough to pamper each guest.

Insider tip: The Old Town Alexandria neighborhood has a fascinating history dating from before the American Revolution. The concierge can arrange for guided walking tours of this historic area. Especially popular are the ghost tours—offered only after dark on Fridays and Saturdays—that illuminate secret infamies and the restless spirits of Old Town’s gaslit streets.

The Grille - Upscale atmosphere; American fine dining. Menu features wild-game fish; free-range fowl; fine meats and produce. Cellar Master assists guests with wine selections from an extensive list. Private dining program available upon request (surcharge). More information about private dining can be obtained via calling hotel directly. The hotel number/contact info will appear on your hotel reservation confirmation.

Elysium Dining Room - Intimate setting; no menu. Instead, a chef comes to each table before the meal to explain the day’s fresh ingredients and to ask diners about their food preferences. The chef then creates an original meal for each guest, and a skilled sommelier helps find the perfect wine.

The Grille - Wood-paneled and leather-upholstered space that turns into a piano bar in the evening. Food specialties are steak, chops, and wild game fish.

This hotel was charming, and had much more character than the chain hotels nearby... and cheaper! Very convenient to all of the shops and restaurants of Old Town Alexandria. I'd definitely recommend it!

This is a great hotel, B&B feel but still has all the business amenities. Within walking distance to everything and the Metro, and the staff is very attentive without being obtrusive.

We felt like we got what we paid for with good service and the convenience of being located right in the historic district. The bed was super-comfortable and there were some nice touches waiting for us when we arrived, like chocolate and cookies!

This hotel is all about service. I can't wait to return. The location is perfect - right in the heart of Old Town Alexandria. This is a little pricey but it was worth every dime. In fact, I've stayed at several hotels in the DC area that were actually higher priced and the Morrison House puts them all to shame.

Beautifully appointed small hotel. Reception area has coffee, iced tea and water awaiting you as a greeting at any time of day. Rooms are well-appointed but bathrooms are a bit dark and could use an update. Very quiet for sleeping. We only had one meal in the dining room but it was very tasty and you can easily make a nice meal of appetizers and small plates. Don't miss the bar after 10 PM on Thurs., Fri., or Sat. There's a great group of singers (most amateur, some professional, i.e. Washington Opera) who regularly gather for the pure joy of singing, accompanied by a wonderful pianist). Have a drink and enjoy the free show! Staff will willingly accommodate any request, however mundane. I asked for a copy of a magazine article, and they carefully made an oversized copy to fit the page size. We would definitely return.

I was extremely pleased with the Morrison House Boutique Hotel. The location could not have been more convenient... for just about any reason for a visit to the general DC area. The hotel staff was engaging, intelligent, compotent and cheerful. The room was very nice and was serviced with a consideration of "extras" which made me feel wonderful without carrying overtones of haughtyness. The bedding and bath towels were extraordinary.
