The bad: No coffee pots in rooms, no Internet access facilities, desk clerks not pleasant and hotel restaurant staff very surly. The good: Metro station and several restaurants nearby, relatively short walking distance to main D.C. attractions, hotel is on the waterfront, excellent food in hotel restaurant; cafeteria style coffee shop serves hearty breakfast

The Channel Inn is located right on the Waterfront. Walk stright up 7th Street to Capitol Hill or take the Circulator Bus that stops in front of the Inn. Grab breakfast from the Coffee Shop. Head up the channel to the fish market or for a walk around the Tidal Basin. Very convenient to the Metro Yellow Line.

I rarely complain about a hotel, but this one is suffering from deferred maintenance in a neighborhood in transition. The location could be beautiful, as it is right on the Potomac, but is now rather isolated from main part of the city. Didn't feel completely safe on the street at night, and amenities in the hotel are meager. Breakfast buffet was fresh food, served in a bare-bones atmosphere.

The phone in the room did not work. When checking in I felt as though I was disturbing the clerk. I received a very icy welcome.

The hotel was fine, we walked to the Washington Mon and beyond, (you do have to walk past a amazing floating fish market so hold your nose as you walk by) but what impressed us most about this hotel was the water pressure in the shower. It was best shower we have ever had! Ask for a river view room.
