Features
What to expect: Built in the mid-1970s as Wailea's first hotel and refreshed with a $25-million renovation in 2000, the low-rise resort presents the ocean as the star attraction while honoring the hillside's natural contours. The resort’s expansiveness is concealed beneath the vegetation even as the ocean's is revealed. The result is tranquility, intimacy, and no sense of being crowded even when all 521 guestrooms are full. Despite its grand setting, the resort is free of pretense: excellent dining, for example, but no "fine dining," and an exceptionally friendly, hospitable staff. Amenity highlights: Terraced into the hill so it looks straight out at the ocean, the central pool complex begins at the top with a pool and sundeck bordered by the Kumu Bar & Grill. An infinity pool on the bottom level seems to merge with the blue Pacific in the background. Two spas, a short waterslide with its own splash-down pool, and a children's pool complete the liquid attractions. Children are not an afterthought at the Wailea Marriott. The children’s pool complex offers two waterslides, one short and steep into a splash-down pool, the other a long, serpentine ride that includes a 360-degree spiral; a water-based array of playground equipment; a toddler-friendly sand-bottom wading pool; and a large hot tub in a grotto. (Situated above all this is an adults' pool.) In addition, the resort's Cowabunga Kids Club offers full-day sessions of activities while parents relax elsewhere.
Insider tip: Just outside the open-air lobby is a banyan-tree grove so majestic it merits the description "cathedral," all the more so because a choir of birds resides in its thick canopy. In rocking chairs on a flagstone terrace with coffee in hand at sunrise or cooled by shade and breeze in the afternoon, guests fall into restful meditation before the enchanting trees, whose pearl-gray trunks are illuminated after dark by tiki torches.
Hula Moon's Restaurant - Up among the palm-tree tops, overlooking the main pool complex and providing a sweeping view of the ocean, this open-air, casually elegant restaurant serves a bountiful breakfast buffet and à la carte dinner fare featuring local fish. A spacious, comfortable lounge is at one end. Kumu Bar & Grill - Bordering the main pool complex, this spot serves lunch and dinner in the open air, with Hawaiian entertainment nightly and a big sports bar in the back. Luau Gardens - Four nights a week on a lawn next to the ocean, a slow-cooked pig is unearthed from a pit as the sun sets, and a luau commences complete with a colorful Polynesian Revue and a world-champion knife dancer.
Wailele Snack Bar - Next to the pools-and-water-slides complex, the snack bar serves shaved ice, smoothies, salads, and a kids' menu.

| Our family of 4 stayed in this hotel for a quick 5-day vacation in Maui. We traveled with two adults, a 3-year old and a 6-month old. The room was GREAT and overlooked the children's pool. It was clean, and the beds were THE MOST COMFORTABLE that we have EVER slept on in all of our travels! The room overall was really nice. The hotel is currently going through a mulit-million dollar rennovation, so you do have to deal with the sounds of construction. While our children were taking naps during the day, we often heard the sounds of drilling and hammers - but you couldn't really hear them with the balcony doors closed. Because of the rennovation, some of the ammenites are closed. It's hard to buy a drink and food from the children's pool - you have to walk about 5 mins to the closest hotel restaurant, and only one was open. Overall it was a good hotel - not excellent, but definately worth the price.

| Our stay was wonderful - a nice comfy hotel. The grounds are beautiful and the beaches are nice and within walking. The one restaurant is open and the food and service good - Once the construction is done I am sure it will be fantastic. We used the spa area but it wasn't great they assured us that when and if we come back it will be wonderful.

| From the moment we arrived we found the staff extremely helpful and friendly. The hotel was a short walk to a number of great swimming beaches. Our room was recently remodeled and we found it to be both well decorated and comfortable. We didn't dine in the restaurant but did enjoy a luau put on by the hotel.

| We enjoyed our stay. The only disappointing part was that the snack bar by one of the pool areas was closed. Good snorkeling beach was within walking distance.

| Room was very clean, only flaw I saw was a little crack in the bathtub exterior. The screen to the porch was off track, but was fixed by maintenance without me saying a word. The breakfast buffet (part of the package) was fantastic. Grounds very nice, staff very friendly and willing to help. Will go back.
