John Rutledge House Inn Amenities
This historic hotel was built in 1763 by John Rutledge, one of the 55 signers of the U.S. Constitution. Now restored, it is one of only fifteen homes belonging to those signers to survive—and the only one that accommodates overnight guests. History records that George Washington called here in 1791; an entry in his diary shows a breakfast with Mrs. Rutledge. Architectural features include ornate ironwork, original woodwork, plaster moldings, inlaid floors, marble fireplaces, and 14-foot ceilings. Afternoon tea is served, as is a complimentary Continental breakfast. Self-parking is available (surcharge).

| The first room we were assigned was in the basement of the main house and was rather loud because it was opposite the kitchen. We asked to be moved and they accommodated us immediately. Our new room was in one of the carriage houses and it was even bigger and nicer. The service was excellent, the Tempurpedic mattress was divine, the location was ideal, and the house -- especially the exterior -- was stunning. However, the bathroom was just a tad shabby. Overall we were very satisfied.

| My wife and I just returned home after a delightful weekend at your Inn and we wish to express our appreciation to the service that we received from all the staff. From the time we first stepped foot on the property to the day we departed, the level of service and attention to detail was unparalleled. Never have we experienced such quality of care expressed in such as relaxed, friendly and yet professional and efficient manner. The warmth and charm of the John Rutledge House created such a romantic and inviting atmosphere. The complimentary breakfast service, afternoon tea, and evening cordials provided greatly enhanced our stay. We look forward to returning to Charleston and staying with you folks again and will not hesitate to recommend your excellent Inn and outstanding staff to all of our friends.

| The John Rutledge House Inn is located right in the heart of downtown Charleston on Broad Street, and is at a perfect location for walking to most of the major sightseeing attractions in downtown. We were a little disappointed in our room (#1 Butler Pierce) only because it was in the basement level of the house, and although the bed wasn't the most comfortable, the room was very beautifully decorated. We had breakfast served to us every morning in the courtyard, which I would recommend if it is cool enough outside. A few items, such as biscuits with sherried fruit, yoghurt, and cereal are included with the room, and you can order larger breakfasts at an additional cost. The people manning the front desk/concierge were all very helpful with directions and information for local attractions.
