Camino Real Oaxaca Amenities
Located five blocks from Oaxaca’s zócalo, or central plaza, this historic hotel occupies the former Convento de Santa Catalina de Siena, sections of which date back to the 16th century. The hotel blends Spanish Colonial and indigenous design elements and is dotted with frescoes, fountains, courtyards, and gardens. Three-foot-thick walls ensure a cool stay on hot summer days. On Friday nights, guests can attend the hotel’s weekly Guelaguetza, a traditional stage show held in the 16th-century chapel, with music, folkloric dancing, and dinner buffet (surcharge) featuring Oaxacan specialties.

| Very interesting old monestary - the downside to our room was that there was very limited pricacy if window was open. It opened to a nice courtyard (2nd story) but a walkway was directly in front of window so no lounging around with window open. when window was shut it was a bit like a dungeon. Otherwise, nice, clean and historic.

| My husband and I were very pleased with everything in the hotel. Everyone went out of their way to make us feel at home. We were particularly impressed with the kindness of the restaurant personnel and the bellhops. This was especially important because we were there during the teacher strikes. The only negative thing I can think of is the shower curtain. I tried several things to avoid spillage, but nothing worked. However, that was not big enough to make our stay any less enjoyable. I would definitely stay at this Camino Real again.

| It was amazing to wander the halls of a 1500 year old ex-convent. The hotel is beautiful and the grounds were maintained wonderfully with flowers and trees. The location is perfect. Walking distance to everything. The staff can help you arrange all the side trips into the villages.

| Everything was exquisite -- a magnificent, historic convent, beautiful courtyards, gracious service, wonderful food, a great pool. Also, a great location to see the city and beyond.

| Compared to other choices in Oaxaca, this is a pricey hotel. If you're willing to spring for it, however, you will find a perfectly delightful place to stay. Camino Real did a commendable job preserving the most interesting and charming qualities of the old convent they converted into a luxury hotel with modern comforts. The hotel is in a great location. Its food is very good. Opt for the breakfast option; eating traditional Oaxacan cuisine in a rustic courtyard is a pleasant way to start your day. The staff is friendly, competent and reliable. Our only disappointment was a problem with a sewer odor in our room, which wasn't persistent and was improved by a maintenance person pouring a magic concoction down our drains. Oaxaca is a special place and this hotel fits well with its character--charming, comfortable and romantic. If you are willing to spend the money to stay at the Camino Real you'll be rewarded for your choice.

| The building and grounds are so beautiful you will want to spend at least one full day/night just in the hotel. Make sure to have a drink at the pool at night. Service is phenomenal. Food is good and the hotel offers traditional dance and mariachi nights with buffet dinner. I am usually not a fan of buffet but this is very small and they grill the traditional meats to order. During breakfast and lunch they play a version of the Beatles (best of) in monatery "chant" style. Endearing. Rooms are nice but doesn't match up to the top notch luxury of the hotel itself. Location is great for walking around town. Pool is very cold and refreshing, a nice patch of grass to sunbath on, the other side is shady for those who want to avoid the hot sun. Weather is great. Sunny and hot but dry during the day and cool in the evenings. I would def go back

| A very nice hotel but ....... if you do not want to be disturbed by music from bar until 11.00 p.m at night, or the noise of afternoon and late night swimmers in the pool, avoid an internal room overlooking the pool. Ask for a two double bedded room otherwise get used to a very small bedroom and a separate bathroom from minute sink area outside the bathroom - very limited privacy!
