I was not overly impressed when we pulled up, but the office/lobby was beautiful and up to date. And our rooms were perfect and roomy. Nice place to stay especially for the price.

After driving 7 hours, I checked into this La Quinta in Tuscaloosa, AL, around midnight. Around 5:30 a.m. the air conditioner started clicking very loudly. Nothing would make it stop other than turning it off, which I had to in order to get two hours more of sleep. I turned it on back at 8 a.m. (since the heat in AL during the summer is pretty bad) the a.c. started clicking loudly again. Management would do nothing except to offer to send a maintenance man to come check on it. I am female and was traveling alone and really didn't want some strange man in my room especially since I was going to check out in a few hours. All I wanted and needed was a few hours sleep so I could drive 7 hours home. Needless to say I didn't get much sleep with the a/c problems.

The hotel was comfortable for a decent night sleep but the location was great for meals on the go, especially for someone who doesn't want to drive everywhere. The room would be better if it had a refrigerator but the free wireless internet was also a plus.

First, the check-in clerk was rude. I called ahead and asked what time check-in was and the person said 7:00AM. So I got there early and the lady at the desk seem offended that I was there before the actual check-in time of 11:00. She didn't make I contact, didn't acknowledge anything I said, and just laid the key down on the desk and walked to the back. As far as the room goes, the good thing is, there is free high-speed internet. The bad is, I was at a conference all day and when I got back to the room around 6:00PM, I just had to lay in the bed and watch tv. Not because I was tired, but because that was my only choice. There were 2 chairs, but they were off to the side and would't fit between the double beds. I won't stay there again, and I won't recommend it to anyone.

What a surprise...the other La Quintas where I have stayed have been in nice locations. This one was extremely hard to find and get to. There is no direct access to it from the main road. The hotel is sandwiched between I-59 and the back side of another building. The front desk staff was friendly, and the room clean but a bit musty smelling. Thankfully, I only needed a place to sleep and wasn't there very long.

I was skeptical when I saw the 2 1/2 star rating on this hotel. I was very glad when it exceeded my expectations. I believe this hotel is under-rated. It deserves four stars - the rooms are spacious and comfortable with a microwave, fridge, iron and ironing board, and a coffee pot! I will stay there whenever I'm in the area.

We were expecting it to be run down and not clean. But it was very clean. When I walked in the room the first thing I said was "It smells nice!" and the air conditioner was on and the room was cool. Very friendly service at the front desk. There is a Huddle House resturant in the parking lot (basicly). Many resturants and stores within 1/4 mile (or less). Wal-Mart is bascily across the road. UA is not very far down McFarland either.

The first thing that got to us was the check in time was 3:00. We check in and still have to wait until after 5:00 for our room to be cleaned. We are lucky we had friends staying in the room next door. The second thing is the pool was not opened yet. It was in the mid 80's the day we were there and it seems like the pool would have been open with those weather condtions. The final thing is, our room was adjacent to the interstate so the noise level was higher than we liked.

Entrance is a little difficult to find. Located beside the interstate and vehicle noise from the interstate can get loud, so if you're a light sleeper, this is not the place for you. Otherwise not a bad overnight stay.
