Recreation
The sprawling South Platte River valley, northwest of downtown, has many parks and bike paths, and is a popular area for whitewater rafting and kayaking.

The 314-acre City Park, less than 5 miles away, contains a golf course; tennis courts; horseshoes; baseball, football, and soccer fields; two lakes; picnic sites; playgrounds; and the Denver Zoo and Denver Museum of Nature and Science.

Summit County, a little more than 1 hour west of Denver, includes four popular ski areas: Breckenridge, Copper Mountain, Keystone, and Arapahoe Basin. Vail is 100 miles west of Denver.

Features
What to expect: Within easy walking distance of downtown Denver's financial district and tourist attractions, this hotel attracts business travelers during the week and vacationers on weekends. Decor pays homage to the region's history and natural beauty, from the 20-foot sandstone fireplace in the dignified lobby to the 1876 restaurant and bar, named for the year Colorado achieved statehood.

Amenity highlights: Guests grab their morning Starbucks coffee at Mugs, sip evening cocktails at the Fireside Terrace, and exercise in the complimentary rooftop health club, which features a pool and spa, sundeck, fitness center, tennis court, and running track.

Insider tip: To experience a real Rocky Mountain high, a hike to the 15th step on the west side of the state capitol building will put visitors at 5,280 feet—precisely 1 mile—above sea level. Inside, steps to the top of the rotunda lead to views of the Rockies stretching from Pikes Peak to the Wyoming border. Nameplates identify the visible peaks on this 150-mile span.

1876 - This 147-seat restaurant—named for the year Colorado became a state—features wrought-iron, granite, and cherry wood decor. Specializing in contemporary Western fare, it's open every day for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and serves breakfast and lunch buffets during the week.

Fireside Terrace - The lobby lounge is named for its focal point, a massive sandstone fireplace. Open every evening, the lounge serves cocktails, microbrews, light fare, and desserts.

Mugs - This small, wood-paneled café serves Starbucks coffee and specialty coffee drinks every morning. During the evening, it reopens as a smoking bar.

We were in Denver for a weekend in May (a great place to visit by the way)and were very happy with the Grand Hyatt. We stayed on the 23rd floor and had a beautiful view of city lights at night as the hotel is downtown amoung other high-rises. The hotel feels very elegant, maybe a bit stuffy, but the room and the service were great. The free gym was clean with up-to-date equipment with an indoor pool. The 16th Street Mall is just a few city blocks away, easily withing walking distance, and is a must-do.

This was an excellent hotel. The room was clean, beautiful and had a great view of the city. Room service, while pricey, was delicious and the front desk was very helpful with directions. Close to shopping and food. We will stay again. Only complaint is that parking was expensive, and the hotel Starbucks closes at noon on the weekends.

This Hyatt is definitely only for business travelers. Do not stay here if you are a tourist in Denver. If you have a car be advised that the parking is not included in the price of your room. The valet service is very expensive per day. There are really no other alternatives if you want to come and go as you please. The financial district is dead on the weekends, even the Starbucks are closed! There's the 16th St. Mall and the Denver Art Museum in walking distance however.

Make sure to search out the room offers as some include breakfast and some don't and it was the same price either way and the breakfast is really sweet.
