| The resort was very nice, the 'private' pool was awesome. Staff was friendly and helpful. The location is great, about a 30 yd walk to the beach front. Coco beach bar, who serves Esmeralda is really great, with good food and good drinks.

| We returned to St.Martin after 20 years to celebrate our anniversary, a very special event. We were not disappointed, the people were very hospitable and friendly, the beach was a short walk from our villa accomodation, we had a terrific experience with the Esmeralda.

| My wife and really enjoyed our stay. The hotel was just as shown on Expedia and the positive reviews we had read were accurate. If you want to stay on the less developed, less hectic French side, we would recommend this hotel. Be advised that this hotel is on Orient Beach, next to the naturist resort, so if you are bothered by topless sunbathing you should go somewhere else. The staff was excellent and friendly and all spoke English as well as French, although I was hoping to be forced to speak French. The only complaint we had was there was no spigot or ability to wash off our feet outside our bungalo - but hey, it's Carribbean France. If you are expecting a supermodern resort with US type amenities, stay on the Dutch side, with the Burger King and the traffic. Esmeralda was wonderful, relaxed, charming. We even cooked some meals in our room at our kitchenette and saved hundreds of dollars, as every dinner out in St Martin is expensive.

| We were here for fourteen nights, and our room was uncomfortable and never clean. Also someone was cutting the grass outside our villa every day, not exactly relaxing. Be prepared to see nude people around the pool.

| Our stay at the Esmeralda was excellent. The only negative things I can say was that the room needed more lighting fixtures and I do not prefer European bathroom showers because they then to allow water to fall on the floor. The hotel staff was professional and very helpful. The room was very spacious and cleaned immaculately every day. On two occassions the staff contacted places we booked day trips to get exact directions for us. The support staff would give you a pleasant hello every time you saw them. Grounds were well maintained. After seeing other resorts, the Esmeralda will get our business next trip also.

| The first thing we noticed when we got there, was that the lawn had not been maintained for some time. Weeds were literally knee high. The service we received at the reception/front desk was not overly helpful. It was adequate and that's about it. They did not seem glad to have our business. Rooms were quaint but old and seemed clean, but you couldn't tell because the grout was so dark. Lighting was inadequate. Plenty of space in the room. The patio overlooking the pool was enjoyable for breakfast, lunch, snacks, meeting neighbors. The bathrooms were large.
