I liked this hotel-it has character and flavor. The staff is very friendly and helpful. It is a small hotel but I found it comfortable. The only disadvantages are the a/c is a window unit and you need to walk to the corner to get a taxi.

My daughter and I took a "girl's trip" to New York and stayed in Manhattan as suggested by some New Yorkers. Wanting to be within walking distance of some major tourist attractions we found The Franklin Hotel on line. We were extremely well pleased with the accommodations. It reminded us of a bed and breakfast inn with a Victorian atmosphere. Our room and bathroom were immaculate. (On line the reviews said the hotel had shared bathrooms, not true, all rooms have their own bath.) The continental breakfast of cold cereal, fruit, pastries, milk, juice, or coffee provided a light start to our day in a relaxed atmoshpere. All of the hotel people were very friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay there again.

Reasonably priced for a small (scoot around the bed, toilet & shower squeezed tightly together) room a brief walk from Central Park. My only issue was that my room was on the first floor, just down from the check-in desk, and I could clearly hear every conversation of people checking in and out.

Love this place. Rooms are very 'European' -- small but efficient. Beds are fabulous with clean, white duvets and generous sheets. Hotel staff is very accomodating and the wine and cheese in the afternoon is a very very nice touch in NY. Feels like you're staying in a neighborhood vs. tourist central.

The Franklin is a beautifully restored Manhattan Hotel-- but it is a bit small. Not unlike most of the other NYC hotels I have stayed at, space at the Franklin was a commodity. I must say, however, that the size of the hotel made it quite welcoming. The staff knew our names and were more than welcome to help us in any way. The rooms were very clean and up-to-date (with nice LCD televisions). I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone-- but keep in mind that if you plan on spending any time downtown, or even mid-town, this hotel is a bit out-of-the-way. There are certainly advantages to that, however...

My reservation was not in the hotel computer! We were lucky to get any room, but we were given a smoking room which was so tiny we could barely move around. The next night we were given a larger, non-smoking room. This is a nice hotel, but all of the rooms are quite small, and the price is extremely high. Its only advantage is being close to the upper east side museums.

The rooms is so small that it is more of a closet than a hotel room. Same goes for the bathroom. The staff was very friendly but they could not make up for the conditions of the entire hotel. If you are wearing any size over 2, do not try to go there.
