Features
What to expect: Business travelers and families alike appreciate this all-suite option that does not skimp on hospitality. A basket of fresh fruit at the small reception desk is a clue to the friendly ambience, and the lobby’s French provincial decor of cheerful yellows and blues and whimsical art is anything but stuffy. The bustling, tourist-friendly location suits business travelers who don’t want to rent a car to see the sights.

Amenity highlights: The 17-floor hotel offers a fitness room, business center, and same-day dry-cleaning service. In every suite, the kitchen includes a coffeemaker, small refrigerator, utensils, microwave, and compact stove.

Insider Tip: Nearby Pizzeria Uno (the original of the national chain), which claims to have invented Chicago-style deep-dish pizza, is less than 2 blocks away. To avoid a long wait at this popular spot, head a half-block north of the hotel to Pizzeria Due, opened to catch the overflow of diners with a penchant for pizza.

The James was one of my best hotel experiences. The place opened in March 06 and the decor is very contemporary and has a fresh feeling. It was very clean. The hotel staff was consistently nice and helpful.I can't say enough!!!! I would definitely recommend this hotel.

Best service we've ever had and the room was outstanding. We mentioned to the bellman that we were there for our anniversary and when we came back to our room we found champange waiting for us! Everyone was very friendly and professional.

The room has all the ammenities needed: plasma TV, CD player, very small closet, very comfortable beds and reasonable size bathroom. The design is very simplistic and lacks warmth. I looks too "sterile" and cold. To an extend that it feels unfinished.

Our family stayed at The James for 3 nights and loved it! The decor was very modern, loved the plasma tv and even the bathroom was impressive. Very clean, lots of extra touches. Nice lounge in the lobby and shopping and restaurants all within walking distance.

The James was absolute perfection. We arrived late, and were upgraded to an apartment suite with gorgeous windows, a cool bar, dining area, bathrooms, bedroom. The place was dripping with coolness. We invited some of our business friends and sat around the swank living room, then downstairs to the bar. The food in the restuarant was delicious and the bread they give you before dinner is indescribably good. We got a great rate on Expedia and The James let us keep the suite the whole 6 days!

I'm a Chicago native, now living on the East Coast. Travel back frequently for business/pleasure/family and always stay 4-5 star. Stayed at The James for the first time recently and was really impressed. It's a tad pricey, but worth it. Think of those chic, hipster hotels, only far nicer, for grown ups and w/out all the pretentiousness, and you're at The James. The gym is the best I've seen at any five-star, anywhere in the world, and I have logged more than 250k internationally in just the past couple years. Bravo.

This new hotel is first class. They think of all the "little things" that really make a difference when traveling and staying in hotels - they even provide slippers in the guest rooms. We were greated by the staff every time we were in the lobby or walk in or our the front door. They even have dog treats and water in front of the hotel for the walking by. The atmoshere is contemporary and clean. The bed is awesome and so comfortable! Each room has large plasma tvs placed where you can use them. Wireless is available throughout the hotel at no charge. In the evening they have a sceen projected on one of teh walls in the courtyard - very interesting and fun to watch. Although we did not get to eat in their restaurant, it has received great reviews. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a nice, fun and comfortable place to stay in a great part of town.

Maybe not the place to stay for serious work, but very interesting, modern design and exceptional service. Good location. Lighting was my issue--the hotel sacrifices adequate in-room lighting for the sake of style. But if you want to be absolutely comfortable in Chicago, the James is a good choice.
