Features
What to expect: Built in 1971, this 598-room hotel has a quiet, intimate residential aura unusual for its size. The lobby, which extends a full city block from Central Park South to West 58th Street, includes a sitting area appointed with large armchairs upholstered in wine-red velvet.
Amenity highlights: In the grand Room With A View restaurant, arched windows frame views of Central Park, and the menu is Continental with contemporary accents. The adjoining Harry’s Bar, also facing the park, has the classic look of a New York club. Room service is available 24 hours a day.
Insider tip: Joggers and walkers headed for the paths of Central Park will want to stop by the concierge desk to pick up a park map, hung on a convenient neck cord.
Room With A View - This second-floor restaurant is an opulent, high-ceilinged room with arched windows overlooking the trees of Central Park. All three meals are served at well-spaced tables with baronial armchairs. The menu is Continental with contemporary flair. Mrs. Helmsley's Salad features dates, pine nuts, and goat cheese in addition to the usual greens. Harry's Bar - This club-like bar and lounge is a tribute to the late Mr. Helmsley, whose portrait is displayed on the mahogany-paneled walls. Views are of Central Park and the hansom cabs of Central Park South.

| Hotel room were really dated, most bizarre was having a refridge in the bathroom. Bathroom really needs to be updated. Rooms were clean but just OK for the prices charged. Flat screen TV but had very low volume control.

| The Park Lane was one of the first "luxury" modern hotels to open in NYC, in 1971. It's servicable, if somewhat anonymous. Don't expect the discrete, hushed luxury of the Pierre or the Carlyle. But as a 1st class hotel, it's perfectly fine. And at Expedia's total (with tax) "special" rate, it's not a fantastic bargain, but not a rip-off. Try it...it will probably be o.k., and the location is absolutely superb for tourists.

| With a location on Central Park South the Park Lane is well-placed for a New York getaway. My room was large and comfortable, the staff was friendly and helpful, room service was quick and efficient. Never waited for an elevator, despite the fact that this is a 46 story building. I'll go back in a heartbeat.

| The Helmsley Park Lane is one of the better hotels that I have stayed at for pleasure. It is not a luxury hotel, but it is very nice with nice accommodations. The rooms are spacious, which is more than can be said for many in New York. It's best feature is probably its location. It is within reasonable walking distance of a number great areas: Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Broadway, and is right across the street from Central Park. Finally, the price was very reasonable for the location and accommodations, and allows you to save your money for the great food and shopping all around you. Highly recommended.

| This hotel has seen better days in terms of decor but if you like "shabby chic" and want a great location,it can't be beat. My room on the west side of the building had great views of the city and the park. It was steps to several delis and resturants and many attractions were close by. If you want cutting edge design, then do not stay at this hotel!

| To wake up in the morning at the Hemsley Park Lane, open the curtains and catch your breath at the view of Central Park as it stretched out before you to the horizon, was the perfect start to the adventures that each day in New York city was to hold for my bride of 46 years and I. Large, spacious rooms with robes, slippers and even umbrellas in the closet. Tastefully decorated rooms. Beds somewhat hard, but with the right attitude, it did not detract from a memorable stay.

| The rooms are wonderful especially with a Park View. Staff is great. This trip, however, the room was stuffy the entire time. It was very hot in NYC and their air conditioning would not cool the rooms sufficiently.

| I decided to stay at the Park Lane again and it was like it hadn't changed a bit. The room was spacious enough but seemed very dated. I'm used to a mini-bar in a hotel room and missed having one. I also had to stay on a smoking floor in order to get a room with 2 double beds - not real pleasant for 2 non-smokers. The check-in took much too long because of a misunderstanding on the part of the hotel staff - no problems after the confusion was cleared up. The location can't be beat.
