Six blocks away, Bryant Park—a favorite among New Yorkers—is a relaxing retreat with promenades, gardens, the Great Lawn, a carousel, food kiosks, and even wireless Internet access. Central Park, 11 blocks north of the hotel, offers walking, biking, and running paths; in-line and ice-skating; birding; boating; and horse-drawn carriage rides. The recreational activities listed below are available either on-site or near the hotel; fees may apply.

    Features
What to expect: The hotel's signature 50-foot clock stands above the entrance of this contemporary hotel, which is surrounded by theaters, lights, and the razzle-dazzle of Times Square. Behind the gleaming black-glass exterior is an oasis of calm. Dark maple-wood paneling, polished brass, and abundant, comfortable seating create an upscale tone in the lobby, located above street level. Business travelers appreciate the hotel's proximity to many Midtown companies, including Morgan Stanley and Lehman Brothers, both about a block away. Weekends, the hotel fills with families and other vacationers seeking quiet accommodations in the midst of the action.

Amenity highlights: A prime Times Square location puts guests in the center of a world of entertainment and steps from Midtown businesses. Foley's, the hotel's seafood restaurant, offers up-close views of Times Square. The hotel's bar serves signature martinis and complimentary hors d'oeuvres during happy hour.

Insider tip: This hotel is a top choice during the winter holiday season. Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade marches right past the door. The Christmas Tree Lighting takes place at Rockefeller Center, which is just 2 blocks away. At midnight on New Year's Eve, the famous crystal ball descends the flagpole atop One Times Square, across from the hotel.

Foley's Fish House - This sophisticated room with windows on three sides offers dazzling Times Square views and a wide array of seafood specialties. Highlights include the signature Seafood Martini, Iced Seafood Tower for Two, Maple-Brushed Salmon Fillet, Grilled Block Island Swordfish Palermo, and New York Cheesecake. Celebrity guests include former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani. The restaurant is affiliated with Foley's Fish, the Boston-based supplier of premium fresh seafood. Open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The Bar - The intimate bar is marked by Art Deco detailing that echoes the style of nearby Rockefeller Center. Classic cocktails are served, as well as creative concoctions such as the Broadway Mimosa and the Almond Joy and Mounds martinis—the latter two a tribute to the Hershey's candy center across the street. Complimentary hors d'oeuvres are served during happy hour, and a pianist entertains in the evening.

24-hour room service is also available.

We had a wonderful stay. Great staff esp. helpful were the concierges (w/ amazing tips) who went out of their way to make sure we had a good time. Rooms were very clean w/ modern decorum. However, what stands out most is the wonderfully convenient location in the heart of times square. After touring the city or shopping, great making 'pitstops' at our hotel room due to it's ideal location. Lastly, times square view from hotel restaurant was outstanding (room views weren't however but we didn't care). Again, great experience, and I'd definately stay here again.

One of the few hotels in Times Square that offers double beds. And let's talk about the beds! Unbelievable comfortable, down comforters and pillow. Plus, the rooms are soundproof, so the street noise stays in the street, and out of your room. Great location, a great night's sleep. Simply great.

We were able to walk to most places from our hotel. Great view of Times Square. Bed was very comfortable. Only down side was that the shower did not drain properly and the handle on the toilet in the room would occasionally stick. However, I would stay there again.

While this hotel is well located for theater jaunts, it was lacking in service. We had requested a NON SMOKING ROOM. What we got was one that smelled of stale cigars and rotting onions. We had to have all our clothes cleaned at the next stop on our trip. Oh, BTW check in time was 4PM.

The Renaissance was a VERY nice hotel in a GREAT location -- we really felt as if we were in the heart of everything. They have a great fitness room, and offer apples at the front desk!
