| We expected something a bit nicer than it was. The stairs were steep, dark & dirty. The room was so small the 13" TV looked like a "big screen". The pub and restaurant were closed. The sidewalk, street and surrounding area was very dirty and trashy. On the plus side, it was close to areas that were more up-scale.

| This is a terrific B&B/hotel for a leisure stay but I would not recommend it for a business traveller. The unique rooms are clean and comfortable, but the desks are too small for adequate work space and the wireless internet is completely unreliable. However, the front desk will provide an ethernet cable for DSL access. Every room is different and most have a small sitting area included. It is much more like a B&B than it is a traditional hotel and it is certainly a far cry from a major hotel chain. However, if that's your style, then this is a terrific find! Breakfast is offered every morning; cereals, muffins, variety of bread for toast, juices and coffee is great if you don't need a hot meal. The location is good for walking to several outstanding restaurants and shopping in the Marina district, or it's quick walk up to Union Street for super fancy shopping, or to the Exploratorium (great for kids and adults!). Most taxis appreciate it you mention that the cross is Lombard; it's unfortunate their front door is actually on Scott since most every one knows Lombard (the corkscrew part is way at the other end and a nice long walk).

| This hotel was small and neat. It was clean and the bed was very comfortable. There was some street noise as it is off of busy Lombard Street so we could not sleep with the windows open but otherwise OK. The free continental breakfast was good and the hotel staff was courteous. Parking was not an issue as we were able to park on the street after 10 pm and free meters on Sundays. The location was great and central to Fisherman's Wharf.

| Our 2nd stay at the King Edward II was even nicer than our 1st 10 years ago. The rooms are nicely furnished with some character, the breakfast is very nice and the hotel is clean and well located. The rooms are a little small, and the bed was too hard for my comfort, but might be just right for most people. We highly recommend it - it's a great value and locaiton.
