Features
What to expect: Opened in March of 2003, the resort offers tranquil seclusion between turquoise-and-blue sea and low green hills. Rest-and-relaxation is the theme, symbolized by classical background music playing in a two-story lobby offering a tropical-Spanish decor of coral-stone floor and wood accents. Amenity highlights: Wood stairways lead down a 10-foot bluff to two beaches, one 100 yards long and the other 70 yards, providing swimming and sunbathing opportunities as well as views of Culebra island and the main Puerto Rico island to the north. Some days, St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands can also be seen on the horizon. Those views are also available from the two-level pool complex, whose lower level includes a shallow children's section. The upper level features two infinity edges flanking a swim-up bar. A pale coral-stone sundeck surrounding the pool is furnished with lounge chairs and umbrellas. Insider tip: About 2 miles west of the resort, a 1.5-long pier juts into the Caribbean Sea, offering jogging and fishing opportunities.
Paso Fino - Air-conditioned dining room and open-air ocean-view veranda. Buffet and á la carte breakfasts and á la carte dinners with selections such as conch bisque, lobster empanadas, coconut prawns, lamb chops, steak in peppercorn sauce. Decor featuring cream-colored linens, dark-colored woods. Isla Nena Grill - Open-air bar and grill under bleached-wood beam ceiling. Lunch menu of burgers, sandwiches, salads, pizza, quesadillas. Taino Bar - Air-conditioned bar/lounge with high-back couches, cushioned wicker chairs. Live music some nights.

| Our stay at Martineau Bay was pleasant from the moment we arrived at the Vieques airport. There were no "publicos" available at the airport, so a hotel staff member picked us up in a van and took us the hotel. He helped us with our luggage and the doors. When we checked in to the hotel, we were greeted with the "welcome drink," a delicious blend of tropical juices. Our room was large and comfortable, and the bed was divine. Dining was a tad expensive, but not too much more than other restaurants on the island. The meals we ordered (once at dinner and twice at breakfast) were quite tasty. The grounds were very well-kept, and I especially enjoyed the orchids all around the property.

| The hotel was quite beautiful. Definitely a great place for a romantic get-a-way. The rooms were comfortable and spacious. The people were very accomodating and pleasant however the down side was that they forgot about us a few times while dining which was hard to understand since we went during the off season and there weren't that many guests.

| I am from Puerto Rico and I never expected to find a hotel like this in Vieques, everything was just perfect. No complains at all. Maybe I haven't been in that many hotels in Puerto Rico but I can tell you this much if I have another chance to come back to this one I will take it.

| A very nice, high quality resort hotel with a small number of rooms, decent pool, great on site beach and generally eager to please staff. Spa is also nice and most of the benefits are included with the room. Drinks and food expensive. Free wireless internet in hotel main building, nice new rooms with sea views and tubs.

| Nice hotel and beautiful secluded hotel beach. Had an excellent stay - staff was very accomodating. I visited during the non-peak season (June), and may have received quick service because of this (extra coffee, special requests). Highly recommend this hotel, especially during the off-season (which would be summer months).

| The hotel ws wonderful, beautiful and the service was exceptional. Food service was kinda slow (we were on "mexican time" i guess). The food was very expensive but pretty good (not great)so we ate at other places most of the time.

| While perhaps the most expensive place on the island, I dont think it lived up our expectations of a resort. The AllDay Dinning room service menu was abysmal, no pathetic. The selections and prices were limited and ridiculous, no breakfast items and most available only after 6pm. Maybe it was the ongoing general strike in PR that is to blame, but the service seemed distant and preoccupied. Mold around the bathroom sink, and in the shower. The small air conditioner leaked and froze over. No refrigerator, just a chiller to small for a liter bottle. No in-room Internet, just dialup at cost. Limited cable TV channels. Housekeeping was sporadic and the tiled floors were so dirty the soles of our feet turned black. All they did was make the bed, and empty the 1 small trashcan in the bathroom. The do not remove any dishes, empty containers; I think the local custom is to place this stuff on the ledge outside of your room yourself. There was hair in the bathroom/toilet the whole time we stayed. The only time they did anything was when you were in the room. The most enjoyable parts were the views, the sun and sand, and just being out with my spouse cruising around he Island.

| We stayed at Martineau Bay in Vieques for 4 nights. We stayed on Puerto Rico just before coming over to the Martineau Bay. The resort is absolutely beautiful. Very peaceful. One of the nicest and well-kept rooms I've stayed in. Can't wait to go back.

| First, kudos to Expedia for getting us an amazing package/price! Second, this resort was just great. The rooms are spacious and comfortable. Our room was right at the pool and the ocean was only a few feet past that. The only discomfort was the occasional smell of mildew. But this is not uncommon in island rooms anywhere. The staff were great - we were greated by a tasty glass of guava juice and then driven around the resort for a tour. The spa was great - I highly recommend the papaya-pinneaple srub!
