Even the hotel staff acknowledge that the 1970s/1980s-styble decor is too new to be retro and too old to be stylish, but this place is still a find. Our room was spacious, more of an apartment than a hotel room or suite. The in-room air conditioner was a little funky and the balcony needed some chairs, but these are minor quibbles. The best asset is location, location, location; it's on one of the most interesting commerical streets in Vancouver with dozens of interesting shops and restaurants within an easy walk. The beach is just a five minute walk away, ten minutes from Stanley Park, and an easy busride to the central business district. The indoor pool/spa were an added plus. A furniture/decor update would be nice, but then the prices would probably jump a lot.

On first impression, the lobby was quite clean and personnel friendly. Our room was very comfortable, but the housekeeping left a bit to be desired. When I dropped something behind the dresser in the bedroom, I found someone elses hairbrush and mousse were left behind the dresser. The only other recommendation would be to have the bellman explain how to work the airconditioner and fans. Two other couples in our party couldn't figure it out.

Good hotel in a great location. Restaurant is small for the size of the hotel and service is slow but many other restaurants in the immediate vicinity. Elevators are extremely inadequate. They are very small and slow. At check out time it was impossible to get an elevator

We stayed here on a family trip to Vancouver(two parents, two children). The location is fantastic--close to Stanley Park, the beach, and a lot of great food. It's true the rooms could do with a little updating, but for the price and location it's a great deal. The hotel staff were helpful and courteous-- and our room was quiet and comfortable. The pool is in the basement, but was very clean and great for letting the kids burn off some energy.

My partner and I visited the Coast Plaza in Vancouver for the second time and will definitely be back. The location of the hotel, 3 blocks from Stanley Park and 3 blocks from the beach, is perfect. The staff treaded us very well from the moment we walked into the hotel. Our room this visit had a terrific view of the mountains and downtown Vancouver and last visit we overlooked the beach. The room was clean and neat without being stuffy. We always felt right at home. The food at the hotel's restaurant was perfect and the menu offered many good choices and daily specials. This trip we got married in Vancouver, we will be back to celebrate our anniversary and will plan on staying at the Coast Plaza Hotel!

Good things: clean room with eco-emphasis, tall building means upper rooms away from street noise, friendly staff, good location near Stanley Park/beaches/shopping Not so good: no central A/C, only loud portable unit which in my case had its vent hose unplugged when I arrived; parking in garage below hotel is not included in room price (their rationale: "this way we only charge the people who use it, instead of adding it to everyone's room rate" Just weird: kitchenette in room, but no pans or dishes at all.

Overall our stay was good value. Hotel is a little dated and dark but the rooms were a good size. We had a suite - all suites are next to the elevators so be warned -can be a little noisy -especially at night !! We had a large living room and seperate bedroom. nice balcony - no chairs !!Bathroom and kitchenette very small and kitchen utensils very sparse !!! there was an air conditioninig unit in the living area which was very efficient at cooling the living area but not the bedroom - we were given a fan !! if you open the windows there is a lot of street traffic noise. Good size pull out sofa and we were given a roll away free for our stay. We requested a non-smoking room and were put in a smoking room for the first night but were compensated with free parking and a free breakfast !! All our luggage was also moved the next day. Pool is big with good changing faciliites. Pool is undergoound and a little claustaphobic - always seemd to be the smell of chlorine !! Parking is under the hotel and there is a nightly fee !! Staff were very friendly and helpful and able to recommend palces to go and you can buy tickets for various attractions at the concierge desk. The biggest plus for this hotel is it's location - walking distance to English Bay, Robson Street and beuatiful Stanley Park. There are also many restaurants /cafes just outsdie the hotel. Overall the hotel is good value for money !!

Coast Plaza is in a prime location in the heart of the west-end and so close to Stanley Park - it was perfect for us. My husband and I were in Vancouver to celebrate our 15 year wedding anniversary. When we arrived (late) we stumbled into our room on the '8th' floor (this was really ground level), unfortunately woken up all night long since it appeared our room was next to a maintenance closet. Our 'balcony' had a 10 foot wall that prevented us from even glimpsing the outside. We called the front desk first thing in the morning, and even though it was a long holiday weekend and they were completely booked, they moved us to a gorgeous room on the 24th floor with a fabulous view of English Bay. We were delighted - the staff was eager, nice and incredibly helpful for our entire visit. I'd highly recommend, provided that you ask for a room above the 10th floor :-). Oh, and if you call down to the front desk before 9:00 pm they'll send up cookies and milk.
