| Was hesitant to book for 3 nights not knowing what to expect. It is just enough away from city noise but only a block or two to walk to - right behind SkyCity Tower and Casino. Greeted by the door opening top-hatted bellman in full regalia. A guest's Ferrari was parked at the door. Elegant lobby, helpful desk people who called Expedia for us since we were not in the computer. Check-in not til 3 but we arrived from the U.S. at 7 am and were in the room by 8 to rest. Complimentary newspaper each morning. Nice spa products for the toiletries in the huge beautiful bathroom - phone in there - separate glass shower, pillowed extra-large tub enough for 2 people, sewing kit, vanity (q-tips, emery board, cotton balls). Not a nice view but not bad either - upgraded to 10th fl. Very comfy bed. Great pool and gym and sauna on the 4th. DIdn't eat there - honor bar $$$ and breakfast too much for us. WOuld stay again - this is the place.

| The staff of the hotel tries very hard to provide good service, but they generally only succeed in this after service has lapsed and they are trying to play catchup. I stayed on two separate occasions on the same trip. Twice I stood waiting at the desk to check in/out at a less than busy time and waited aimlessly because the desk staff were all on break behind the desk. They were very apologetic when they realized they had a client, but the one person left behind to mind the fort did nothing to call for reinforcements. ditto restaurant service - very courteous but ultimately inattentive on followup. I got up myself to refill a water glass after unsuccessfully trying for some time to get a waiter's attention. Rooms and facilities are very nice and very comfortable and the location is very central near Aotea Center.
