The Lucerne Hotel Amenities
The Lucerne has a fitness room with a stair machine, treadmill, two stationary bicycles, and free weights, and also offers discount passes to the Equinox health club 2 blocks away. The hotel's business center offers high-speed Internet access and a printer; copying, typing, and faxing services (fee) are available at the front desk. The hotel has a concierge and multilingual staff, and provides 24-hour room service.

Features
What to expect: The Lucerne—opened in 1903 as a student dorm, renovated, and reopened in 1995—has a European-style marble lobby decorated with columns, wall tapestries, and terra-cotta tones. Located within 4 blocks of Central Park, the American Museum of Natural History, and the Rose Center planetarium, the hotel primarily hosts business and leisure travelers.

Amenity highlights: The hotel's business center offers computers with high-speed Internet access, and the front desk provides printing and faxing services (fee). There is also a fitness room with free weights and exercise equipment, and a discount pass is available for Equinox gym, 2 blocks away. The hotel connects to a French restaurant that serves three meals daily and weekend brunch and features a bar area and sidewalk seating.

Insider tip: The Boat Basin Café, 4 blocks from the hotel, is situated right on the 79th Street Boat Basin. (Stone steps lead down to it, just off the Henry Hudson Parkway.) In warmer months, it's a fine spot to have a meal or drink on the patio with a view of the Hudson River.

Nice Matin - The hotel has its own entrance to this restaurant, which serves a French-Mediterranean menu and has an extensive wine list. Decorated in rich, rustic colors, Nice Matin has a bar and sidewalk café, and attracts a mix of locals and hotel guests. It serves three meals daily and brunch on weekends.

What a pleasant surprise! We had a king bed so our room was a little small but so clean and nicely appointed.Requested softer pillows and had two wonderful nights. Entire staff was very friendly and helpful.

My wife and I have stayed at The Lucerne a few times, and we have enjoyed our stay each time. The hotel is at a great location on W. 79th Street, near Museum of Natural History (walking distance), Lincoln Center, and just a short cab ride away from Broadway and other attractions. Nearby are numerous restaurants, cafes and bistros that have made Upper West Side a favorite place for vistors and locals alike. Everyone at the hotel, from doormen to front desk and housekeeping are friendly, polite and helpful. Rooms are smartly decorated and are very clean. Room size is small, but typical of other NYC hotels. Nice Matin (the restaurant connected to the hotel) is very good, and you get discount coupons for breakfast when you check-in.

The Lucerne Hotel was a find. It's location was great. It was close enough to downtown to walk without the noise and busyness of Times Square. Our room was smaller than most of the other 1 bedrooms...I'm not sure why. Perhaps because we were getting it through a discount travel business. Overall, we were very happy with the hotel. It was clean and the customer service was friendly. One thing they need to attend to is the overall appearance of the lobby. It is in desperate need of a fresh coat of paint and new furniture.

We took our Daughter to visit Columbia Univ. Staff was very cordial and knowledgeable. Accommodation fit us perfectly, 2 queen beds, separate living room. Great access to subway (1 block away) which took us right to the front door.

We had a fantastic stay at The Lucerne for 3 main reasons: 1)great location - easy access to 2 different subway lines; 2)friendly and courteous staff; 3)we had a corner room that was spacious and the bathroom had great traveler-friendly amenities. The only glitch happened on our first night when there were false fire alarms, but they were resolved that night and did not continue for the rest of our stay. We would definitely love to stay at The Lucerne again!

Roomy for NY standards, close to a main subway line, walking distance to numerous quality local restaurants and Central Park. A drug/convenience store just across the street. A liquor store also very close. Also plenty of shopping opportunities. The service of the staff was great and the lobby/rooms are gorgeous. The Upper West Side locale sets you with true New Yorkers and away from most of the tourists. I will stay there again and recommend the place to family and friends!

My wife, dughter and I stayed for 4 nights recently and were delighted with our stay. First, the hotel: Staff was friendly and professional. The room was small but not extronarily so. The 3 of us stayed for 4 nights and did not kill each other! The furnishings and decorating were up-to-date as were the hallways. Overall, the hotel seems to be well cared for and very clean. The bathroom was plesant and full of all of the accoutrements. The location: Excellent. 2 blocks from the Museum of Natural History, 3 blocks from Central Park and about 4 blocks to Riverside Park. Subway station about 1 block away. Tons of resturants within a block or two with one of the best being in the hotel itself. Items such as a drug store across the street and even a local grocer or two within a couple of blocks were appreciated. The streets was very walkable day or night. The upper west side is in the heart of where young professionals come to meet and eat. The rate: Excellent. I have paid much more for much less. Overall this compares very favorably with other larger city or even small city rates. I spend a lot of time in Chicago and felt the rate was on par if not better considering all of the attributes. I plan to return in the upcoming months as our daughter will be attending grad school in the city. I, as well as my wife, was pleased with our experience and would recommend The Lucerne without hesitation.
