| Rooms are expensive, dirty - most of the rooms on the Shattuck side are noisy at night.

| This hotel was perfect for our need of an overnight stay. The big downfall was no air-conditioning...which on a hot evening wasn't too fun. Then, because we had to open the windows for air at night, we heard the lovely yelling voices, transit, and traffic. The place is older but has character. After reporting the down-side, I have to say that I'd stay there again in a heartbeat for another overnight stay!! The location was simply amazing. Close to campus and the Greek Theater, close to a brewery, close to restauraunts, coffee houses, close to shopping, close to the BART station if needed. Everything you need is readily available to you. The hotel looks very cool and we had great service. We didn't drive so we didn't need parking - we took Amtrack straight into Berkeley from Sacramento, then hopped on a bus for a quick bus ride. I couldn't stay at the hotel for an extended amount of time and it isn't the most luxerious hotel ever...but it works for a short stay.

| Supposedly is slated for a renovation which needs to be started. It will probably be quite nice after a major renovation, but right now it is poor in all respects.

| Best features--probably only 50 paces from the downtown Berkeley BART station. Lots negative to say--No air conditioning (or ventillation) as far as I could see. Furniture old and beat up. Matress was hard, sheets were rough. Wall paper was peeling, carpeting was bunched, bathroom towels were thin and a bit stained, window blinds were beat up. No counter in bathroom, only a small glass shelf. No iron/ironing board--not that big a deal, I just have come to expect and need it on business trips. Shower temperature was UNCONTROLLABLE--hot, then cold, then scalding hot, without ever touching the knobs. The A/C unit on the roof of the first floor restaurant cycled all night, 1)taunting me as I had no A/C and 2)making it hard to sleep. In closing, how did this hotel get a two star rating?

| Old hotel w/ potential but tacky decor. Room is comfortable but no airconditioning. Room was clean and service was good. Please tell your guests that they can park on the street after 6 p.m. Parking garage across the street is a ripoff so try to park in the street after 6 p.m. Hotel has potential but needs work. Very good location in Berkeley

| This hotel is not worthy of a three star ranking. It is in need of refurbishment and has nothing to recommend it except its location.

| Very poor quality service. The towels were not clean. The room was in poor condition, shower head was rusty and didn't supply hot water... There was no breakfast service even though there supposed to be one.

| A clean, safe, and charming hotel right in the heart of downtown Berkeley. It's less than a block from BART, and from shuttles to UC and LBNL, so it couldn't be more convenient. They told me that their free wireless internet was not guaranteed in the rooms, but it worked just fine for me. I stayed there to attend a meeting in SF, where rooms are astronomical, and it was a good value.
