| I have stayed at many hotels across Brazil and the Excelsior is one of the better ones. They offer all of the amenities that Americans are used to getting at hotels and it is located right on Copacabana beach and has a beautiful roof top view. Well worth the money!

| We stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks in July visiting friends and seeing the sights of Rio. Loved the hotel, and enjoyed the morning buffet. It was nice to have a place to eat for free every morning before you start your day. The hotel rooms are small compared to the ones in the States, but they were fine. The shower is amazing! We loved coming home from sightseeing to a nice shower with great water pressure. They leave little chocolates for you at the end of the day, they are quite good! The beach is right across the street and they have towels and lounge chairs already for you. As for the pool, it was freezing so we did not go swimming there. We took the busses where ever we went (because taxis can be quite expensive). There are lots of little places to eat by the hotel and a very good Italian resturant right across the street. There is also a little buffet place around the corner that was excellent, they had all kinds of food and was quite cheap. Overall, we had an excellent time. My husband speaks fluent portuguese but the hotel management speaks English very well and they were very helpful in all areas. Take a taxi from the airport but on the way back, the hotel has a free shuttle. When we go back to Rio, we would stay in this hotel again!

| I stayed in the Escelsior for five nights in June 2006, and had a 90% positive experience. The hotel is well-run, well-staffed with friendly, competent people, immaculately clean, safe, with comfortable beds, and well-situated on Copacabana Beach within close walking distance from the Arcoverde Metro station. The breakfast buffet was copious and delicious. The 10% that was not satisfactory consisted of two things -- first, the gym: two of the four aerobic machines (cross-trainers) in the fitness center were broken, and one of the two bikes had a loose seat that made it nearly impossible to use; second, the hotel internet charges were very expensive (the equivalent of $US 25 for a 24-hour LAN connection, or $US 6 for a half-hour in the business center), and the connection failed repeatedly (at least ten times during the six days I was there). For people on vacation these two deficiences may be less important, but as I was on business it became a real hassle to have to leave the hotel to find a real gym and internet cafes (though both are available nearby). All in all though a good experience.

| Very good hotel. Great breakfast included healthy choices. Very good location close to beach and metro. Tours from hotel pricier than if you looked for other agencies.

| If you look for a hotel which is very clean, with a very good restaurant and right on the spot at the boulevard in Copacabana, this is the place to be. It is not the cheapest hotel in this part of the city, but it is certainly worth the money.

| We stayed in the hotel in beginning of April 2006 and really enjoyed the breakfast buffet and our stay. The hotel was very nice and right down the street from the Palace. The only thing that would have made our stay more enjoyable was if the hotel was on Ipanema, a much more happening beach.

| We stayed at this hotel for a week. The location is great, and the staff was very professional. The breakfeast was the "bomb" and the free beach towel/chair was an added bonus. I would come back to this hotel.

| My flight scheduled called for me to have an early check-in and a late check-out, both were handled superbly. My wife and I checked in and had an issue with our room, the front desk was extremely helpful and changed our room and sent us an apology with chocolates to our new room. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The rooftop views of the beach and mountains are absolutely gorgeous. The only down-side was the size of the pool. I enjoyed my stay immensely and will be back next year.
