Features
What to expect: Four Victorian mansions once belonging to the city’s merchant princes comprise this 65-room, four-story hotel. Saffron walls, gilt mirrors, blue-and-gold upholstery, and soothing classical music create a refined atmosphere in the small, ground-floor lobby with its ornate fireplace. Business and vacationing clients mingle in the adjoining Le Boudoir Lounge for drinks or coffee in the evening.
Amenity highlights: This hotel’s various staircases and hallways to different areas produce a homey atmosphere. Original moldings and plaster medallions on the high ceilings are reminders of the craftsmanship of the 19th and early 20th centuries. The hotel's emphasis on original sculptures and works of art, placed at every turn of the halls, adds even more personality. The breakfast room, where a complimentary buffet is offered, is at lobby level.
Insider tip: The McCord Museum of Canadian history, 1.5 kilometers (1 mile) east of the hotel on Sherbrooke Street opposite McGill University, houses the Notman Collection. It’s a huge archive of photographs of the city taken about the same time these mansions were inhabited by some of the city’s wealthiest and most well-known residents. McCord Museum is closed on Mondays.
A complimentary Continental buffet breakfast is provided each morning. The hotel does not have its own restaurant, but there are several dining options within the surrounding area. Nearby restaurants: Ristorante Bronte Au Bistro Gourmet Bice

| this tidy little hotel in an old residence was within walking distance of Mt. Royal and downtown's trendy shopping streets, as well as easy subway trips to old town and the incredible horticultural gardens. We also walked to the Musee des Beaux Arts and an exceptional French Bistro, recommended to us by the hotel. There was even a yoga studio a block away and they handled our car for the three days we spent in Montreal.

| We were originally booked for a standard room which essentially means the basement. This would have been fine when we were 20, but we were looking for something a little roomier. We upgraded to a deluxe room, and it was worth every penny. It was bigger and on the main level. That is the key- reserve a room on the lobby level- specifically off of the street. Our room was so quiet and peaceful. The breakfast was light and delicious- not your standard american fare. Great location... can't wait to return to Montreal!

| The Chateau Versailles Hotel is close to downtown but gives you the feel of being in a neighborhood with great little bistros and cafes around each corner. Very nice continental breakfast. The staff were wonderful and very responsive. If you want a unique experience (not the run of the mill chain hotel) I highly recommend the Versailles.

| This hotel has some major problems: 1) Rooms the size of closets 2) Poor air-conditioning (needed in the Summer) 3) No elevator (we were on the 4th floor) 4) No parking and almost no place to pull a car over even to unload. If you are interested in staying in a hotel that has more of a 1850's feel to it speaking of the lack of air and an elevator, this may be a place for you to check out. Unfortunately, we were more interested in modern amenities. For the same price, you can get a great hotel right down the street.

| Hotel is owned by Le Meridien (across the street) and they share a conceirge. Hotel is quaint, in a terrific location, 3 minute walk to the Metro and great restaurants and the heart of the ritzy part of Montreal. The staff was incredibly friendly and the breakfast in the morning was good. The room is on the smaller side, but still very comfortable. Nice, clean bathroom and lovely terry cloth robe for guest use. Has a bed and breakfast feel because of the small, 60 room feeling.

| Yes, silverfish in the bathroom and cockroaches in the bedroom (I asked the maid to squash one of the ones on the wall I couldn't reach). Stay here, also, if you like the basement: our first, microscopic room was next to the traffic light on a busy street. I requested a change and got another (subatomic in size) in the basement, next to the laundry closet//staff break room = v. noisy in a.m.s. The bathroom door was 19" across--fortunately I'm not, but I could not squeeze in to retrieve my cosmetic case, as my husband brushed his teeth! The seat was falling off the toilet, the base coming off the sink, and the plastic tub had a big cigarette burn. The restaurant recommended by the clerk was awful(no service, cold greasy food with dirt in the mushrooms). But the breads at breakfast were quite nice (but not worth the other stuff we had to put up with).

| We really enjoyed the ambience of the Chateau Versailles. An older, renovated and well maintained hotel, you really got the feel of Montreal. Staff is incredibly helpful and friendly and they provide a great cold breakfast with lots of variety and offerings. The surrounding neighborhood was also an extra bonus.
