Grand Hotel Plaza Amenities

The Salone delle Feste, jewel in the crown of this Art Deco hotel, is a ballroom/banqueting/conference room that can seat 300 for dinner or 400 for a cocktail reception. Pairs of ochre-colored Doric columns hold up the Art Nouveau glass ceiling surrounded by ornate gold stucco cornices. It is lined by a marble-walled cloister and decorated with antique furniture – gilt mirrors, marble-topped tables and meter high chandeliers. Three other conference rooms – the Red Room, Yellow Room, and Green Room - lead off from the Salone delle Feste with capacity ranging from 20 to 70. Finally, there are two other conference rooms on the first floor and a business center off the lobby with a fax machine and computer terminal offering ADSL Internet access.

Guests have use in summer of the Lemon Terrace which runs entire length of the hotel, overlooking the rooftops and the Via Condotti. The walnut-paneled lobby consists of three very high-ceilinged intersecting rooms. All have patterned marble floors, clusters of red velvet antique chairs, and leather topped antique desks.

Recreation

The recreational activities listed below are available either on site or near the hotel; fees may apply.

Features

What to expect: A revolving mahogany door leads from Rome’s main street, the bustling Via del Corso, into a high-ceilinged marble-floored, walnut-paneled lobby. Formerly a royal convent, it became a hotel in 1860 at the time of Italian unification and has been frequented by popes, princesses, and ambassadors ever since.

Amenity highlights: The gold stuccoed Salone delle Feste is the largest of the eight conference rooms where embassies and companies such as Microsoft and Versace often host receptions. The Lemon Terrace lines one side of the hotel offering panoramic views over the Via Condotti (designer shopping heaven). Bar Bistro Mascagni, the mahogany-panelled cocktail bar, is named after the famous eponymous Italian composer who died in the hotel.

Insider tip: The hotel was the location for Zefferelli’s film Tea with Mussolini, in which it was described it as ‘the finest hotel in Europe’. It also features in a number of Visconti’s films. You can’t miss the life-sized, marble Lion of Babylon at the foot of the grand marble staircase – it may look scary but it has been a symbol of welcome for 140 years.

A complimentary Continental breakfast is provided each morning.

Bar Bistro Mascagni - The mahogany-paneled walls and bar, frescoed ceiling, candelabras, gold-leaf cornices, tapestry wall hangings, and plush red velvet chairs offer a suitably grand setting to sample the hotel’s trademark cocktail, La Dolce Vita. Alcoholic drinks, juices, teas and coffees, and bar snacks are served 12pm-3pm and 7.30pm-11pm.

Mascagni Room - Frescoes on the ceiling of 18th-century ball scenes, gold-stucco ceilings, and red velvet and mahogany chairs decorate the ornate breakfast room, adjacent to the Bar Bistro Mascagni, where an American buffet breakfast is served each morning. The Mascagni Room seats 180 and is used for pre-booked functions in the evening.

Best location within walking distance of all the sites in Rome and 1-2 blocks from numerous restaurants and cafes. My wife and I also spent a few nights at another hotel on the Via Veneto and felt removed from the tempo of the city.

The hotel is situated right in the heart of Rome. We woke up daily to musician's playing below our window on Via Del Corso. The style of the hotel fits in perfectly with Rome. Our only complaint was because of our stay during the month of August, most of the hotel staff was on vacation and many amenities were unavailable.

Great location for shopping and sightseeing. Unfortunately, the rooms need a lot of maintenace/repair. The public areas are gorgeous, but the rooms are falling apart. Also, the air conditioning is less than adequate. We were there during a real heat wave, but the air conditioning just wasn't adequate even if there had been lower summer temperatures. Staff was nice. Room service slow.

while the room was quite small the lobby and terrace are breathtaking. It is not a conventional hotel, it is an integral part of Rome with style, fresco and great views

I would rate this hotel below average in terms of service and comfort. Long hallways leading to rooms which can be tiring. The positive is the location in the heart of the city and shopping area.

Comfortable, stately and stylish in a way that's perfectly consonant with a leisure trip to Renaissance Rome. Convient location near the Spanish Steps, especially convenient for shoppers along Via Condotti.

Just a few blocks from the spanish steps, great shopping and dining just around the corner. We had a room for four people - two bedrooms, one on either side of a small entry with a bathroom between the two. The bathroom was gorgeous with marble floors and a relaxing bath and shower. The two bedrooms were spacious and comfortable. The lobby and dining room are impressive. The outdoor roof decks seem a little underutilized - they would be a great spot for afternoon cocktails but there is no service available on the roof. The only drawback was that some of the staff were rude. One suggested that it would be more economical to take the hotel shuttle to the airport at a cost of 100 Euros, when in fact the taxi we took (parked across the street at the taxi stand)took us for closer to 45 Euros. There are many other luxury hotels in the area and I might try another on a return visit.

The hotel is located within walking distance of most attractions and in a major shopping area. Staff was efficient and polite, very attentive. the ambience of the lobby, lounge area and staircase are very impressive. Rooms are sufficient for a short stay, 3-4 nights but connecting rooms are not very well insulated so that sound carries.

Set in a wonderful central location the hotel was perfect. From the extremely extravagent dining room and bar to the very spacious rooms and great, helpful staff. Our stay here had only one problem, it wasn't long enough! Would reccomend it to everyone and will definately go back.

Although this is a very lovely hotel the comfort was not at all what we expected for the price. Rooms were constantly hot. They even switched us to another room and it was still hot. Bed was so uncomfortable. For the price and class of hotel we expected much better.
