Features
What to expect: With Victorian antiques at each turn, this Colonial-style hotel is like a turn-of-the-century museum and guest house. Built on 6 acres of gardens, the Madison provides a refreshing escape from the rush of Northern New Jersey. The homey lobby hosts a piano and sunken lounge with wood-burning fireplace and Tiffany mantle. The hotel is popular with corporate groups and is a favorite spot for private parties.

Amenity highlights: The Madison maintains several meeting and event facilities, including a conservatory with glass ceiling and a grand ballroom with Victorian paneling and crystal-and-gold antique Baccarat chandeliers. The indoor splash pool and spa tub have floor-to-ceiling windows with a view of the hotel lawn, while the fitness room has cardio equipment and free weights. The hotel offers complimentary shuttle service within a 5-mile area, based on availability.

Insider tip: The Midtown Direct train departs from Convent Station, just across the street from the hotel. From there, New York City's Penn Station is an approximately 45-minute ride.

A complimentary Continental breakfast is provided in the lobby each morning.

Rod’s Steak & Seafood Grille - This historic restaurant is open for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, and serves appetizers, USDA prime beef, and local seafood. The decor features dark-wood furnishings, a restored Elk’s Lodge chandelier, stained-glass recessed ceiling, brass fixtures, and Victorian antiques. Jacket preferred; no jeans or casual shoes.

The Parlour Cars - Built inside a pair of restored 100-year-old railway cars (including one rumored to have been President William McKinley's campaign car), this unique restaurant serves Continental cuisine for lunch and dinner in an intimate and romantic setting. The private booths are a local favorite for wedding proposals.

Lobby Bar - With a bar salvaged from an English pub, the lobby bar has a piano and ornate chandelier. It hosts the hotel's daily complimentary Continental breakfast and is open in the afternoon and evenings for cocktails. In the summer months, seating is available in the central courtyard.

Solarium - At the entryway to the conservatory, the Solarium is open for breakfast only and features a menu of traditional and country classics.

We stayed a week for a combo of business and pleasure and the Madison fit our needs perfectly. A tranquil respite nestled between the sprawling, quiet grounds of two college campuses in a historic town, with its own four-star restaurant that includes a solarium and historic train cars, unique historic lobby with lots of carved wood, and block away from the train tation into NYC were the perfect mix. Nice hot tub/spa and a real mini-gym were appreciated. The poll wasn't heated when we arrived, but the staff attended to that graciously. We discovered that since most of our traveling was by train into NYC, we could rent a car right from the hotel as needed for a day trip, rather than paying for a car for our entire week's stay. We'll be returning soon!

The style of this older hotel is absolutely beautiful Colorful carpets and drapes with dark wood make it asthetically pleasing to the eye. The rooms are larger than in the chain hotels and the ares is lovely. The staff is helpful and the food is good. Easy to get to NYC from the adjacent train station. The Madison, Morristown, Chatham area is very upscale and safe!!!
