This is a pleasent enough hotel, but for the prices they charge (as with everything in Iceland - ourageously overpriced) one would expect a much better hotel. The decor is Scandinavian early 70's and "spartan" would be a good word for it. Icelandic hotels have a bad habit of asking you to pay the bill before letting you review it.

hotel is nice, in a good part of town, accessible by car (free parking), walking (close to old city), and public transport (bus stop in front of hotel). excellent top-notch restaurant on the top floor (called Grillid, about $300 for two people), and fair cafe with a good breakfast bar daily. staff were helpful, but the cleaning lady kept waking us up every morning even though we had the "don't disturb" sign on the door. over all a very positive experience.

The hotel was very nice. The staff spoke good English and was very helpful & ready to answer questions. The room was a bit small, but nice. The pillows were down filled & a bit flat. Ask for extras. The hot water smelled of sulfur (had to get used to that), but the cold water was wonderful and great to drink. The walk to the town square was about 10 minutes. Lots of places to eat & shop. The hotel is situated in a very good spot. We really liked the lake/park in town. The hotel is also close to a tourist information center. There is also good information in the hotel lobby, as well as a bank to exchange money. Take lots of that. Things aren't cheap, but heck it's a vacation. We really enjoyed Iceland and would someday like to return to see more of the island. We saw a good bit of the southwest area. :)

Very nice hotel in a very cool city. Rooms are very nice and modern and the beds are wonderfully comfortable. The only drawback to the comfort of the room was that the shower was in one room, while the toilet and sink were in another. We very much enjoyed our stay; however there were a few times where we found ourselves in the heart of the old town when we wished we were staying there (the section where the restaurants/bars are and where the shopping is) as the walk back to this hotel was 10 minutes or so past a cemetery and through some dangerous (ie very busy) rotaries.

We were very surprised to find we had a suite instead of a regular room. The bed and pillows were wonderful. Staff was terrific. The water smells of sulphur, but tastes alright. It's a 10 minute walk to town, so is quiet but convenient. We would stay here again. The gift shop prices are better than town. Miniature liquor in the mini bar is $11.00 so take your own.

Spent three nights at the SAS and had a good expereince. The breakfast buffet was ample, staff was attentive and polite and spoke good english. On eof the tour bus operators has staff at the hotel, there is a large gift shop, and the SAS Saga is clearly one of the better known hotels in the city. The room, although not large, was large enough for my wife and I, and the bathroom was not at all cramped. The only odd thing was we had a queen size room. The bed and pillows were all feather filled, so the pillows were a little flat for our tastes. Also, instead of a queen sized comforter and sheets we each had a half-queen size down comforter. It was an odd set up, but, despite it being about in the mid 30 deg F range the whole weekend we never felt cold. I'd recommend to a friend and would stay there again.

This hotel is a little far away from the center so the only option really is their restaurant. Overall I was not impressed with the food, but it may be because they only had a Christmas Buffet, which was more then double the prices of the meal. On the + side the room was comfortable, and the hotel was very pretty.
