This hotel was very nice with its historic London feel and spotless accomodations. The hotel is located in a nice area that looked and felt the way you imagine London-not like Vegas or Disney London. It is approx 1 block from the nearest tube(subway)to anywhere in 20 mins. The rooms were decent size not small as some have complained about London hotels. The staff was pleasant and attentive. Our room had a double bed (not 2 singles put together)air- conditioning, private bathroom with 6'clawfoot tub with old style shower attachment (no stand up shower), hair dryer, 21" flat screen TV. The hotel has a kitchen but no restaurant. As there is no perfect hotel this wouldn't be helpful if I didn't include the things that I think could be a problem. This hotel is located in the financal district surrounded by office buildings that looked directly into every window of our room. The staff was very helpful but their knowledge was very limited i.e.-I read the tube didn't run all night they did not know this so they surely couldn't help tell me with when I could catch the last tube. In the bathroom there was only one plug and it was for razors only had to blow dry hair etc in room.

This hotel is near Smithfield market and the Clerkenwell district. It is handy for the City but not for tourists unless they know London well and appreciate being somewhat central, without being close to big stores, theatres and other hotels. The area is packed with historical interest, (you can see where William Wallace was executed in 1305 and the house where John Betjeman lived for much of his life, next to St Bartholomew's church which was built in the 12th century), it has some of the best restaurants in London around the corner and is very handy for the Tube. The hotel is a small terrace of houses, dating from 1764, now made into a boutique hotel. It is clean, friendly, well run and very new. I found it slightly noisy - the market runs throughout the night. (One could in principle go out and buy a side of beef at 3 am and then get a pint of beer in Smithfield, but few will wish to do so !) Breakfast is served in the rooms and is limited to rolls and coffee. If you want more, walk round the corner to any one of the local market cafes. I also liked the honour bar system, which is quite unusual for central London hotels. If you get the Expedia rate this is a bargain. If you pay the standard rate it is quite expensive, but if you need to be in that part of town, then this is a super place to stay. If not, then perhaps you should look elsewhere.
