| Overall, this was a good hotel. The manager wasn't friendly or bright but luckily for him, the rest of the staff made up for his ignorance and cold attitude. If you are a light sleepier, be warn trains do pass by at night and do blow their horns while passing the hotel.

| Hotel was clean and comfortable. Breakfasts were good and always included a good selction of fresh fruit and breads. The only problem I encountered was the train tracks are adjacent to teh hotel and if your room is located on that side of teh building the noise is quite loud starting about 5:00am.

| My second stay at this location, it is central to all at the harbor and a short walk from the train station. Didn't even need a car to travel from Ventura County or during our stay in San Diego. The breakfast could have lasted until 10:30 but it was all good.

| We stayed at the Hampton on our very first trip to San Diego, in December 2005. We were very impressed with our room, and the rest of the hotel as well - the place was very clean, the staff was friendly and helpful, and the free breakfast was tasty and plentiful. We chose the hotel because of its price and because of its convenience - the San Diego Zoo is only about three miles away, an easy drive. There doesn't seem to be too much to do within walking distance (a couple of blocks) of the hotel, but it is very easy to get in the car and drive to just about anything. The ONLY concern with the hotel, is its proximity to busy train tracks which run right behind the hotel, but the trains were pretty quiet, and they don't seem to sound their horns between about 10PM and maybe 6:30AM. It was NOT a major distraction. Be sure not to arrive too late, because the parking garage (cost: $10 per day) does fill up later in the evening. I HIGHLY recommend the Hampton, and intend to stay there again the next time we are in San Diego.

| the only thing I really didn't like was the train track near by and the amtrak whistle at all hours of the day - OK if you are a very sound sleeper otherwise can be annoying

| Train tracks run right behind the hotel. So you should ask for rooms in the front. It is close to the cruise ship dock and does run a shuttle. the city trolley stop is just a block away and you can ride over most of the city and as far south as Tiajuana.
