Parrot Cay Resort and Shambhala Retreat Amenities
Operating in Europe and Asia as well at Parrot Cay, Shambhala Retreat offers massage, body treatments, facials, nail care, waxing, acupuncture (when available), yoga and Pilates, Ayurvedic therapy, and healthful meals available at the resort's two restaurants, from room service, and by the Retreat's pool. Facilities include a yoga/Pilates pavilion, a private-Pilates hut, men's and women's saunas, a unisex steam room, and a 35-by-12-foot pool and 12-person spa in front of a sunbathing-and-relaxation deck furnished with cushioned teak lounge chairs. Yoga and Pilates classes and use of the pool, spa, saunas, and steam room are complimentary. Massage, treatments, and therapy emphasize Asian techniques. Consultants from around the world like Ananta, a widely known Ayurvedic therapeutic massage specialist from France, visit periodically to train Shambhala's Asian staff and work with guests. Ayurvedic options include therapeutic massage (strong, penetrating strokes combined with yoga-like stretches), Abhyanga (rhythmic massage with warm herbal oils and powder), and Shirodhara (light neck-and-shoulders massage followed by warm, medicated oil gently poured on the forehead). Other options include shiatsu, Indian head massage, reiki, Thai massage, Indonesian massage, deep-tissue massage, and Chinese tui'na massage. Body treatments include Javanese Royal Lulur Bath (massage, aromatic-spice scrub, cool-yogurt application, bath, and body lotion), algae wrap, sea-salt-and-mud wrap, and an after-sun soother. Facials include Guinot Super Hydradermie Facial (electric currents to enhance penetration of gels and a fruit-enzyme peel), Dr. Hauschka Holistic Facial (cleanse, steam, masks, and foot, neck, and shoulder massage), and Sundāri Facial and Anti-Aging Hand Treatment, which employs the Sundāri Ayurvedic skincare line. Shambhala offers two special facilities for couples, a cottage and a pavilion. The L-shape cottage includes an air-conditioned treatment room and a screened porch containing a dining table, a steam room, a Javanese two-person day bed, and a square, two-person cedar soaking tub. The pavilion includes a square, two-person ceramic soaking tub, a blue-tile steam shower, and an outdoor shower garden consisting of a waterfall shower, wood-and-stone walls, and a wood grate surrounded by smooth, bleached river stones. A spacious, air-conditioned fitness center in a separate building near the spa is equipped with cardio and weight machines. Open 24 hours, the resort's library offers two computer stations providing complimentary Internet connections as well as a television, books, magazines, and table games. The library also includes a pool table and a room equipped with a television and beanbag chair for children to play video games. Coffee, tea, and cookies are available during the day. Complimentary afternoon tea is served daily. Parrot Cay also maintains a medical office staffed by a nurse during the day.

Features
What to expect: Popular with entertainment and sports celebrities (the resort manages a secluded three-house compound for Bruce Willis on the island) as well as an international world-traveling clientele, Parrot Cay resort emphasizes privacy, relaxation, and health spa rejuvenation in a tranquil natural setting. Discreet staffers know when and when not to attend guests. The resort's boats dock well away from buildings and beach. Automobiles are not allowed. Natural sounds--breezes in palm trees, bird calls, the sand disturbed by the ocean--prevail. Amenity highlights: Furnished with lounge chairs and widely spaced white umbrellas, a 1.5-mile beach lapped by the turquoise Atlantic Ocean consists of sand fine as sugar and nearly as white. Other unpopulated beaches rim Parrot Cay, and by boat or golf cart staff members transport guests to them on request. The resort's large, rectangular pool includes a zero-entry on one side and an infinity lip on the ocean side. The pool's weathered-wood sundeck offers teak lounges padded with thick, terry cloth-covered cushions and shaded by white umbrellas. On the deck's oceanside corners, wood-shingle shelters contain daybeds. Insider tip: In addition to the two by the pool, six other wood-shingle shelters containing daybeds lie along the beach, each well separated from others for privacy and tranquility.
