    Beekman Tower Suite Hotel Amenities
This landmark Art Deco building is one block from United Nations Headquarters in a relatively quiet residential area of Midtown Manhattan’s East Side. Fifth Avenue and Rockefeller Center are six blocks away. Greek symbols denoting the building’s 1929 origins as a house for newly graduated sorority women can be spotted on its decorative façade.

The hotel offers two restaurants, including a 26th-floor venue with two outdoor dining terraces affording spectacular city and river views. The fitness center provides saunas; guests also enjoy discounted access to the fitness center and Oasis Day Spa at a companion hotel. Meeting and banquet facilities include a 1,450-square-foot ballroom filled with natural light. The hotel welcomes pets.

    Recreation
The hotel’s fitness center provides cardio and weight-training equipment, as well as separate saunas for women and men. Guests also have discounted access to the fitness complex and Oasis Day Spa at a partner hotel.

The East River Walk, a half-mile north, skirts the waterfront and offers impressive views. Central Park, about a 35-minute stroll or a short ride from the hotel, offers walking, biking, and running paths; in-line and ice-skating; birding; boating; and a host of other recreational diversions.

    Features
What to expect: This building’s status as an Art Deco landmark is reflected in its orange-brown brick façade as well as its richly decorated interior. The lobby is appointed with mahogany-paneled walls, brushed-steel-and-copper elevator doors, marble floors, and angular, Art Deco-style light fixtures. International dignitaries attracted to the hotel’s proximity to the U.N. mingle with leisure travelers who enjoy its upscale Midtown East location and large guestrooms.

Amenity highlights: On the 26th floor, two outdoor terraces flank the romantic Top of the Tower restaurant, which features live piano music nightly as well as panoramic views of the city and East River. The Art Deco-style Zephyr Grill, named for the streamlined passenger trains of the 1930s, showcases New American cuisine with a New York flair. Wireless Internet access (surcharge) is available throughout the hotel.

Insider tip: This pet-friendly hotel is less than a block from a dog-walk park. The grassy, tree-studded park is steps away from the banks of Manhattan’s East River and views of the 59th Street Bridge. A half-mile north, on 63rd Street, visitors can access the East River Walk, a long scenic stroll dotted with landscaped parks that follows the water northward.

Zephyr Grill - New American cuisine with a New York flair. Art Deco design includes mahogany paneling, brushed-metal accents, and large glass murals depicting the streamlined Zephyr passenger trains of the 1930s. The menu features lamb, veal, seafood; specialty cocktails include the Plaza Fifty Sidecar, the Surrey, and the Lyndon House. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Top of the Tower - Main dining room framed by enormous blue curtains. Vaulted ceilings, exposed yellow-brick walls, tall windows displaying intricate ironwork. Two outdoor dining terraces with white-linen-clad tables; one overlooking the East River and the other with panoramic city views. Sophisticated American cuisine. Live piano music nightly. Everyone was very friendly. I lucked out with a huge suite...two bathrooms, a living room, kitchen and nice bedroom. The view from the top of the hotel was really wonderful and if I had time I would've eaten at the roofdeck restaurant.

This was my second stay at the Beekman Tower and I found the accommodation very good from the point of view of value and location. The suites are quite spacious (especially for Manhattan!) and having your own cooking facilities means some savings on restaurant bills. Most sights are within walking distance and there is a good bus service just outside.

The room we had was much larger than most NYC apartments with a full kitchen, large fridge, and a good size bathroom. The staff was also very helpful and pointed us to a fantastic Italian restaurant for an informal dinner just around the corner (Pescatore). I'll definitely stay here again.

There are three exceptional things about the Beekman. First, the service is what you would expect at a 5 star hotel. Everyone from the front desk staff to the bell man to the guy who holds the door open for you when you arrive was fabulous! The second is the phenomenal views from the restaurant/bar on the top floor. Don't do what I did and stumble onto it the last day-go up the first night. Third, my room on the 7th floor was quite large especially for New York. My only criticism of the hotel is that the decor of the rooms was quite dated. Other than that, I really enjoyed my stay at the Beekman and recommend it highly.

I would describe the Beekman as shabby chic. The personnel was very accommodating- however, I requested a queen bed and got twin beds. The hotel is an old landmark- stately from the outside. What makes it nice is that it's not cold and uniform as the newer hotels, but there was a quality about it that I can't quite describe. Would I stay there again- not sure, but I'm glad I did this time.

It is an older hotel with older fixtures. It was very clean and the service and food was excellent. For NYC, it was an excellent value. If you want a kitchen, be sure and ask for a room in the building with a kitchen, living room and dining room. Very spacious!

I wasn't familiar with the hotel when I booked it, and when I first arrived, I thought I might have made a mistake, because the lobby was not that attractive and felt old, and the hotel used those old-fashioned card keys (the ones with the holes in them) But I was very impressed with the front desk staff and all of the employees. The rooms were huge -- this used to be an apartment building, and so I had a huge living/dining room, a small but full kitchen (fridge, stove, etc.), 1.5 baths and a small bedroom. My traveling companions had similarly large rooms, with the exception that they only had 1 bathroom. The room furnishings, carpet etc. struck me as being a bit dowdy and dated, but everything was clean and well-kept. The hotel is about a block down 1st Ave from the UN, and it was a convenient walk to Grand Central from the hotel. Note that the address of Mitchell Place is a bit confusing--best to tell your cab driver you are going to 1st and 49th. There is a corner convenience store right across the street, which allows you to take advantage of the fridge. It has wireless internet service for a small daily charge, which is a must for me. I didn't try the restaurant or the bar on the top floor.

I stayed 4 nights in this hotel in June 2006. Because of the nice kitchen equipped with microwave, refrigerator and gas cooking stove, I can recommend this hotel especially for long stayers who do not want to dine out every day. The room is cozy enough and there is nothing to complain indeed. It was very hot during my stay and the air conditioning worked perfectly.
